Plumwood Boutique Hotel by the Living Journey Collection

Very well managed and appointed hotel. Located in a quiet neighborhood, close to the main street where shops, and restaurants are found. Staff are pleasant and helpful. Rooms are clean and well equipped. Breakfast was full of lots of good options. Very satisfied with our stay.

A lovely secluded Boutique Guest House/Hotel transformed from several cottages in a quiet street just off from the centre of Franschhoek. Very well appointed rooms, great personal service and food in a very tranquil setting but only 5 mins walk from Franschoek’s Main street with all it’s Restaurants, Bars, Tourist and Historical attractions, in my view the best place to stay in busy Franschhoek. This stay was our fourth, we wouldn't choose to stay anywhere else in Franschhoek. The property has recently been taken over by a small specialist Hotel Operator but the service, facilities and food are still to the high standards of the original owners. The onsite Management were particularly professional sorting an issue we had on arrival but the problem was soon solved to our satisfaction. This is a really lovely place to stay, there's parking available and a security 'fob' access to the site, although Franschhoek never seems to have any 'issues' that I would be worried about.

We have stayed in Franschhoek many times and once we found the Plumwood Inn it was like coming home. The setting and location are just perfect and you always felt valued when visiting. We knew it was under new management and on arrival were asked whether this was our first time. When we said no instead of a “welcome back” what we got from the receptionist was “well, there have been changes and you need to pay your outstanding balance immediately on arrival before I give you your room key. This is the new system now. Fair enough - except we were also asked to pay our balance on leaving! Obviously first receptionist didn’t log payment on the computer so the receptionist on leaving made a genuine error. It would have been nice though to have been asked whether we enjoyed our stay and “we hope to see you again”. Sadly, they won’t as the heart and soul are no longer here. We have been told the Plumwood will be undergoing a refurb and that prices next year will be double what we paid this year - and everything has to be done on line with no guarantee of a specific room. No amount of free cake can make up for the loss of the personal touch.

We have been coming to Plumwood for many years. Now that there is another owner, it took some getting used to. One day everything ran smoothly during breakfast. The other day it was a big mess and the invading chef of the other Gueshouse, based also in Fransschoek, could not handle it. The fruit was completely finished early. Asked to supplement and that took a very long time. The prices for the rooms go up at the start of the new summer season. The question is whether that is justified. Clearly a lot has to be renovated or renewed. If that is not the case then the new prices are much too high for the rooms offered.

This Boutique Hotel has changed hands recently and in no way does it now deserve the previous fab reviews. Of the 4 places we stayed in S. Africa, 3 were amazing and this Hotel was a real disappointment. It is overdue a major refurb - everything is tired and the only plus was the lovely staff doing their best. They are charging a premium price for a tired hotel in a good location.

It is the second time that we have stayed at the Plumwood Boutique Hotel. It is one of those rare places in the world where you feel straight at home. The rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished, the bedding is comfortable.The breakfast spread generous and delicious. The location, just a few steps away from the heart of Franschhoek makes it the ideal spot to explore the town on foot. The staff is friendly and helpful. We will for sure come back to this special boutique hotel.
