Dutchess Hotel and Restaurant

I feel at home when coming to Dutchess. The staff is warm and friendly. Food and services are excellent. This time I got the suite (Bwindi) which extraordinary and has its own large balcony with a nice view into the garden. It was my 3rd time staying at Dutchess and for sure will not be the last.

I stayed here for 4 nights while doing work in Fort Portal. It was an absolutely wonderful experience. Everyone was so welcoming, from the moment of arrival to the moment we left. The rooms were spacious with a large bed and mosquito netting. The restaurant was also fantastic as we ended up having almost all our meals here. So much so, they knew my breakfast order by the 3rd day! I will definitely return next time I'm in Fort Portal.

We have stayed at the Dutchess Guesthouse many times and can recommend it without reservation. The food is delicious, the rooms are great and we always feel very comfortable. If we are able to travel to Uganda again, we will definitely stay there again.

I ended up here after walking away from a bad situation and I needed a place to get my head together. I initially arrived for one night and ended up staying four! I stayed one night in Kibale, a double room which was lovely and then moved to a suite for 3 nights. The hot water was wonderful, everything was clean, and comfortable. Staff were just lovely! Owner Helen and her husband were really friendly even though busy. Food is amazing. Chocolate Mousse (thank you Helen) was just the best. The ice cream was the best I have had after 20 years in Africa!!! The chef makes mean poached eggs too. Just go, it's perfect, it's a lovely place to be, everything is there a few minutes away, the bank, supermarkets and everything you need. The four season pizza was really good too. Just so many good things to say about this place and nothing negative at all!!!!

A tranquil, comfortable, well run hotel. I’ve stayed three times now and it’s my favourite hotel in Uganda. Just the right blend of comfort, atmosphere, food and friendly staff. There is a good choice on the menu and the pizzas are the best in town. The rooms are really pleasant and the internet good. It’s just got the right blend of the best of African hospitality.

We had a god stay in the hotel. They also have a restaurant and we have eaten there on numerous occasions. It has always been very good. As in the restaurant, the hotel pays attention to small details. There were even desk lamps in the room and most hotels in Uganda do not have them. The bed was very comfortable and if we needed anything the staff were right there and were very pro. The noise level was lower and the site is located off the busy streets in Ft Portal. We know the owners very well and they are wonderful. Breakfast came with the room. The pricing was pretty normal.
