I booked this hotel using Avios points and topped up with a small payment. On arrival Paulina, the receptionist sorted my £10 parking for 2 days and then asked for full payment for the room and parking! I explained that I had paid for the room, as stated above, and she photocopied the 'cash' part of my payment and asked for payment of the balance. I explained again that I had used Avios points and she took payment for parking saying that she would look into the situation and added complimentary breakfast to our booking. I thanked her, telling her that I thought it was more than generous and went to our room. Jamie kindly took our bags for us as the lift was out of order. We were on the 3rd floor (6 flights of stairs), a cosy small room. We both have Knee replacement and arthritis in various other places , so asked for a room change which was willingly dealt with. We were 'upgraded' to a standard room which was very nice and the complementary breakfast was lovely. When we checked out I was told that full payment was still required and going through the paperwork yet again, I realized that we were booked into a Classic room! I felt that we had been downgraded in the first place and when I mentioned it the receptionist made no comment and I didn't press the matter as he still hadn't sorted the problem out. People were queuing and I suggested that I go and the hotel sort this situation with Avios. He agreed, took my phone number and we left. I have not received a call from them to date! It has rather soured what was in every other respect a very pleasant stay in a very nice hotel with absolutely lovely staff.
