La Residenza del Proconsolo

I spent one week there in March 2004 with my sister and a friend. The hostel is actually behind the Duomo on the third floor of a historic (everything in that area is historic) building. The rooms are not huge, the furniture isn't that fancy, and there are 3 standard bathrooms. The location of this place is fantastic. If you go to Florence and are expecting to stay in your room, you need to have your head examined. There is nothing wrong with this place, and the owner was very friendly and was usually available for questions.

We stayed here for two nights. Location was a little tough to find but the staff was more than willing to come find us in our current location. We were a little nervous about renting an apartment verses a hotel room but this little gem was right in the heart of the area we wanted to visit. Parking in Florence is restricted to parking garage so be prepared to move your car to there at night. Walking is easy and normal. Roads are very small and narrow.

the suite is incredibly tastefully done. amongst a first for apartments/suites that i have used. it was a superb location just a stone's throw away from the Duomo and all things great (eating, shopping, tourist spots). it had all the amenities that are listed on the website. We were also provided a complementary bottle of wine by the host which was a pleasant surprise. the suite access is by stairs only and there is no lift (elevator) to the apartment/suite. if you have issues with climbing stairs you may want to consider this information. the host was incredibly helpful with lugging our luggage and us :-) to the apartment. locationally you cannot have anything better to visit florence city centre.

We spent 2 nights in Florence and had a very spacious room for 3 of us. The room had a double bed and 2 singles. It was nicely decorated and the location was excellent. The room had a kitchen (with not much equipment however) and AC and TV with MTV. The owner was very helpful. He gave us a map and pointed out the best bars, clubs and places to eat. We shared a bathroom with an adjoining room which wasn't ideal but we knew it was a shared bathroom when we booked. I would recommend this hostel and Florence to anyone.

Stayed there in March 2004. Horrible! A look at their webpage is totally misleading. Frescos...hmm..only in three rooms. Other rooms are horrible, no heating (7-9 degrees C at night in March) no cleaning, not even upon your arrival. We found a dust bin in our room full of garbage. The bathrooms are cleaned once a week, nothing works properly. Our neighbors showed no respect to privacy and were laughing loudly at midnight. The owners, a Croatian lady and her very suspicious partner Vladimir, didn't give us any receipt, so we could only hope the money we payed went to Brussels as part of Italy's contribution to EU. The only good thing about this place is that it was very centrally located.

We liked this hotel and would stay here again. Yes it was a little older but it was very comfortable with good hot water in the bathroom and a nice bed and plenty of space. What would make it nicer is if there was an extra mirror outside of the bathroom. As well, the prepackaged buns and muffins for breakfast were not really good. The local grocery stores sell really wonderful bread for next to nothing. Fresh bread would have been much better. As well there is a Keurig styled coffee maker in the room. That would have been OK but we got two little coffee pods a day for coffee. That really was not enough and came across as tight fisted. Otherwise breakfast was classic and plenty. There are stairs to get to all the rooms so anyone with mobility issues should be aware. Communication was via Whatsapp. That was not much fun and both of us are rather good with apps and technology.
