Great Huts

This was my second Great Huts experience. I knew it would be hard to beat the first one, which had Kingston Dub Club making the Saturday night at Great Huts even more magical. Yes, there wasn't Kingston Dub Club this time 'round, but Great Huts in 2024, was just as healing and rejuvenating in November 2020. As I write, I miss, the hammocks under the Almond tree by the gorgeous Boston Beach--bewitchingly relaxing. Chilling there on the hammock, taking in the view, the surfers soaking up the sea and waves and the 'beachers', just enjoying Boston Bay -priceless. Last time, my daughter and I stayed in the alluring Fig Tree, this time we tried the Queen of Sheba and yes, the artwork, including none other than a Gene Pearson sculpture, was royal, and drew oohs and ahhs. I think I also saw a Nakazzi Hutchinson, I love her work. This trip was to be four of us, it was three and we enjoyed the Snake Trail ( no snakes, names after its winding formation) which overlooked the Beautiful Boston Bay and allowed the Great Huts Portland Sunday to whisper in our ears, on that swing chair, overlooking the cliff. We toured the property my daughter and I missed, said hi again to Africana House and relived that Saturday night with the moon kissing the sea, Dub Club and those inspired dancers. We had ackee and saltfish and steam vegetable breakfast, good coffee and discussions with Roberta and the chef, Christopher, whom we really didn't want to leave. Yes, we found friends at Great Huts. I'll remember sitting on a stool in the kitchen, chatting coffee, music and stuff with Christopher, the Chef. I'll also never forget meeting Marcus Garvey, the poet, in one of the books we took down from the book shelf below the Safari Deck, in the kitchen. How could I even forget Dwayne, the grounds man, what a gentleman. Mr. White thank you for waiting up for us Saturday evening. And Roberta, do I need to apologise for my friend's corny jokes about not giving you any Flack? Details are really important, so yes, thank you Great Huts for paying attention to even the music you played on the Safari deck, it really gave me that cool dub reggae vibe. I do miss the animals ( parrots and turtle) , though and heard they are in the zoo now wiht more friends. BTW, there are still hermit crabs and winged ones, like the one in the pic, my daughter took, if you look close enough. Ann-Margaret Lim

My partner and I stayed in the bamboo tree house, which had amazing views of the Boston bay from the bedroom/patio upstairs and from the built in Jacuzzi style bathtub on the main floor. The food and service here are top notch and there's so much to explore around the property from the two pools to the private beach to the hiking trail that we spent a couple of days just on the property. You can rent snorkeling gear and kayaks to use at the private beach or relax in hammocks scattered throughout. Would def stay again. The only issue was mosquitoes everywhere. They stayed away from my husband, but I counted 33 bites my last morning there. I would highly recommend bug spray around dawn and dusk.

The sight of the ocean from the huts is something out of a dream, especially during sunrise and sunset. It’s the perfect backdrop to a relaxing and laid-back stay. The sound of the waves and the fresh sea breeze make every moment soothing. The design of the huts is unique and thoughtful, incorporating natural elements with Afrocentric decor, giving the entire place a warm and inviting feel. I loved how everything was designed with sustainability in mind, really allowing guests to connect with nature. If you’re seeking luxury, this might not be the place for you, but if you’re after a quiet, rustic retreat surrounded by beauty, you’ll love it here. I left feeling refreshed and connected to nature in a way I haven’t experienced in a long time. I highly recommend this hidden gem for anyone seeking a laid-back, nature-centered escape.

I came on a mini vacay over the weekend ahead of work travel, and can honestly say I had a perfect stay. From my initial booking request I received personalized, consistent communication from the team at Great Huts - even through the threat of a hurricane. The sunrises visible from my bed in the African Sunrise hut were breathtaking and each time I used the infinity pool I had it all to myself (this was like 4x per day). The cleanliness standards far surpassed conference hotels I've stayed in this year in the US- which is saying something for an eco-hotel constantly exposed to the elements. But what really made the perfect stay was the team. My very first night at dinner I was joined by the proprietor himself, and between reception and the kitchen my every need was met before I could conceive of it. I cannot imagine a better experience, or kinder, more hospitable people.

Great Huts was a truly unique rustic unforgettable experience! We emailed prior to ensure they were not affected by the hurricane and received a prompt response with updates. Upon arrival we were greeted by Roberta with a refreshing beverage! Her warmth, knowledge and enthusiasm was greatly appreciated! We were also upgraded to an incredible two level hut with stunning views of Boston Bay which took open concept to another level. The other staff were also very friendly and helpful. I believe it was Ms Coretta, that aided with providing us with snorkeling gear when we headed down to the beach. If you are looking to be one with nature, then Great Huts is the place. We will definitely return in the future! Tip: Bring mosquito repellent and comfy shoes.

I can not say enough about how please my family and friends, and I, are about our stay this past week at Great Huts. Every single person we met went above and beyond at every encounter to insure happiness. I am looking at dates now to book our next stay at Great Huts!

It’s our second time at Great Huts. From the 1st point of contact Shereka and Tanya to actually arriving to this property. Great Huts is wonderful atmosphere to be 1 with nature, enjoying the ocean and recharge.. It was especially great to wake up to the view of the ocean from our Fig tree Hut. The staff are always welcoming and professional. Our meals were delicious, served hot, prepared within a timely banner and our housekeeper made sure our room was always clean and had fresh towels. We went to bath mineral fountain (hot springs) about an hour away and that was excellent. However, there is a local side and a more officially developed side. We went to the un developed local side and got massages, the experience was really good but make sure you agree on the price before you start as you maybe over charged. The official developed side is about 8USD and the locals wanted to charge USD120 per person The services are different though so it really depends on the experience that one would prefer.. But we bargained for what we thought was a good price as the massages on the rocks were very good and they used locally made pimento oils and other herbs, which we liked. We will certainly be back to Great Huts and Bath mineral fountain.

Magic and unique location to fully connect with nature and immerse into the authentic beauty of Jamaica! The villa where we stayed had all the comfort yet kept the natural and authentic vibe. I loved the resort’s pool on the cliff and the infinite path inside the garden and hidden magic spot to just rest and enjoy the view. Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed my stay at Great Huts. I started with 2 days solo before being joined by friends. The rooms are immersed in nature, which is perfect to fully disconnect. I particularly enjoyed the Jamaican breakfast, the two pools with view on the ocean and the private beach as well as Boston beach located 10min by foot.
