This hotel has, in our opinion, some amazing positives, but also some stark negatives. Let’s start with the good stuff. The hotel is in an elevated position with the most stunning views of the estuary into Mahón harbour, possibly the best view we have ever had from a hotel & our superior room on the top floor enjoyed the same outlook. Next, the staff. Every single one of them, in every department was brilliant. Always cheerful, helpful & happy to go the extra mile for their guests. Wouldn’t normally mention an individual by name, but on this occasion we will break that rule & say Cilli was perhaps the best receptionist we have ever experienced. A long standing employee & simply superb. Breakfast was excellent with a huge choice including cava. The bar snacks/lunch was also good. The negatives; the hotel looks tired. The exterior needs a lick of paint, the furniture & decor needs modernising. Our room, although huge, was sparse, the flooring was cheap & starting to lift. Most similar standard hotels now have a coffee machine in the room. This one had a kettle but no socket next to it which is ridiculous & you have to pay for the room safe, which should be included in a 4* hotel. The bed was rock hard & admittedly subjective, but extremely uncomfortable for us. The shower however, was fantastic. Apparently the hotel has been sold & should the new owners read this, we would say; keep the staff, promote Cilli, make the obvious improvements necessary & you will have one of the best hotels on the island!
