Had a midweek break here with husband and son early August 2024. Hotel was situated in a scenic riverside setting although if you need a riverside view, it's probably a good idea to request it as some of the rooms overlook the not so scenic carpark and railway. There is a very generous carparking allocation and for us, very important disabled bays under cover with a lift to reception. I will give the reception staff a big credit for noticing that I use a wheeled walker and despite it being a busy bank holiday, told us they would be allocating us another room as they had no lift access to the room we were meant to be in. I was both grateful but surprised that a hotel this young, had access issues! I wouldn't even think to ask a hotel if the had lift to all floors! I dont know what our previous room would have been like, but the one we were given, although having a 'balcony' (small), was overlooking the carpark and loading areas, next to the railway. The hotel website describes the accommodation as 'luxurious'. I would have to disagree Im afraid, as I found them standard at best. It did look like they had wallpapered recently and reupholstered here and there but the first thing that hit me when I went in was the musty smell in the room and the nice iron shaped burn in the carpet. The balcony had old, slippy, wet decking that I did not dare risk put my weight on and in the morning, the balcony door glazing was covered in condensation and you could see the doors and window were quite old . Perhaps this was why the room smelled. I found a most unusual notice on the table about not leaving your balcony door open at night as the flies come in! This was rather off-putting, so having that balcony was suddenly not so appealing! Thankfully we kept it closed at night just in case. I can only say the beds were terrible. You can have a velvet headboard and sparkly wallpaper all day long, but if your beds are bad, it will prevent me returning. The mattresses were deep, but springs could be felt through the edges and it was so ridiculously soft, you couldnt even lie flat. Dont get me started on the roll together! Bathroom was most certainly not luxury either with none of the things us women like in our breaks away, at least give me some complimentary toiletries, there were none! It was all under the guise of being 'plastic free' but I just thought it was being cheap. To pay 400 euro for 2 nights in a hotel room, I expect more. It was the first time I ever stayed in a hotel with no vending machines. There was a glass jug and glasses (dangerous) that you could fill up at the water fountains on each floor. This at least let us fill our bottles at night. We ate both nights in the bar restaurant, which had a lovely view of the river and we found the food delicious, especially the stir fry. We didnt eat desserts as 10 euro for a dessert is a bit pricey. We used the leisure centre which was easy to get to and we got free towels and locke
