Kings Camp

The staff are some of the kindest and most thoughtful people I’ve ever met. Hospitality is off the charts. I stayed with family (6 of us) in the Waterbuck villa. Absolutely stunning. They also have a bunker where you can watch animals drink from the watering hole which made for an awesome place to read a book and watch groups of animals come to cool off. There were some birthdays and anniversary celebrations that Patricia organized for us. Each one unique, fun and memorable. Chef Lungi’s cooking was insanely good. I will miss his lamb. If you’re an adventurous eater there are lots of options to try different game meats, or you can stick with something less adventurous, it’s all amazing and there are always a tons of options. The game drives were spectacular, scenery beautiful. Our guide and tracker Cynet and Sunnyboy were filled with knowledge and made us laugh a ton. Can’t thank them enough for the amazing experience. The lodging was gorgeous and what you’d expect when thinking of a traditional, sophisticated and upscale safari experience. The managers Lysha and Warren seem like they are great managers to their staff. Always pleasant and ensured we had what we needed. 10/10 would recommend.

Stayed three nights, flying in an out from their Rockfig airstrip with Fed Air, in this Timbuvati Lodge. Although slightly larger - 11 rooms, it felt friendly and welcoming from the first arrival to the managing team, Warren and Leisha waving us off on our departure. The lodge provided great guiding and viewing opportunities in a different landscape to what we had experienced in Sabi Sabi. With a passion for photography we had arranged a private vehicle, and were teamed with Jason and Albert. Jason, our guide was himself a keen photographer, always taking his camera and long lens with him, which meant he had a great eye for angles and light, and lots of tips to make photos better. The range of wildlife and birds over the six game drives was superb, including families of Lions as well individual Leopards with the results of their kills - quite gruesome in the case of one group which had taken down a pregnant giraffe. But also owls, tawny eagles, warthogs, lots of elephants, hyenas, zebra and wild dogs. Throughout the drives, Jason was good company, sharing great insights into the wildlife, but also South Africa more generally. Two things that singled out King’s Camp photographically were, firstly, Jason’s readiness to do some star photography one night after dinner, driving ten minutes from the camp to capture some dark skies and the Milky Way. Secondly, last year Warren put in a photographic hide at eye level with the watering hole. This allows both daytime viewing and night time, when the water hole is lit up, capturing animals including around 10 elephants coming to drink. All this against the backdrop of a great, large room, excellent food (too excellent - the breakfast on the return from the morning drive was so filling we skipped lunch), a great bar area - and shop and spa as well. All this made possible by the commitment of Warren, Leisha and the team.

We had the pleasure to visit Kings Camp in the Timbavati reserve last July and it was a splendid experience. Our guide and tracker, Neil and Donald, were incredibly kind and knowledgeable. Neil was both interesting and knew everything inside out. Thanks to his experience and skills we were able to witness incredible sightings like having the privilege of meeting two baby lions cubs on the very first day their mother took them out of the den. We also witnessed a female leopard hunting an antelope, a pride of lions attempting an attack on a herd of buffalos, and the list could go on. The variety of sightings were particularly impressive and we could not believe how lucky we were to be both accompanied so well and to observe such wonders, all while respecting the animals’ lives and space. If you are one to enjoy learning all kinds of information on nature whilst on Safari we also encourage you to take a walking safari. We had the privilege to follow our guide Neil and were amazed at how much information you can gather on the animals by observing and noting the surroundings. For info, we booked the 8-Night Luxury Bush Trilogy package with Seasons in Africa and it was a very smooth and reassuring process. We absolutely recommend Kings Camp as a Safari experience and also bringing a camera to bring back memories like the ones we are sharing with this post.

Beautiful lodge. The Photographic hide is a must! Beautifully finished and comfortable, with amenities makes it a perfect hideout for photographers. Friendly and professional staff, makes it a perfect “home away from home” lodge. Will definitely visit again

We had the most amazing experiences at Kings camp, Our Guide Neil and our tracker Donald were fantastic at finding the animals and explaining everything to us. The accommodations at Kings camp are luxurious and all of the staff is so friendly and help, I would recommend this place over and over, it is an amazing place to stay . The food is also great. All of the staff are wonderful people!!

Kings Camp was fantastic….from the room to the spa, the bar and let’s talk about the meals for vegans….so many delicious options! And they can curate a menu for any food allergies/preferences. Our field guide and spotter, Jason and Albert, were world class as well….we saw every animal imaginable, knowledge of birds/local ecosystem/flora was amazing….we learned so many things! I traveled with my sister and it was mostly couple at the camp, but we never felt out of place…great fellow travelers that we had a great time with. Highly recommend!
