Staying here was one of the best decisions we made when planning our trip to Edinburgh! The inn feels miles away from all the chaos of the Royal Mile, yet it is just a short cab ride away. There were only two nights available during our dates in the city, but we are so happy we spent them at Barony House. If you’re reading this, you have probably read plenty of other reviews here, so I’ll just list what stood out to us (couple traveling from the states in our mid-60s). As already mentioned, the location is excellent…away from the busy city center, but only a short cab ride (or bus trip) away Pristine cleanliness…in all areas The breakfasts were, without a doubt, the best we experienced during our whole 11 day trip. The dining room is adorable, and it was so handy being able to place our order via the QR code on the back of the door in our room. Everything we tried was top notch, and it was nice to have so many choices. This is where we tried haggis for the first time, and it was the best of the trip! As Americans, seeing that French press coffee pot being delivered to our table was a memorable moment. We had suffered poor coffee in the three days leading up to checking in here! Everything - entrees, yogurt, fresh bead for toast, coffee, juice, butter and jam was perfect! Overall hospitality and travel advice - The days we were there, the weather was cool and damp. Entering our room to see the warm, cozy blankets and hospitality tray (handmade mugs, assortment of teas, hot chocolate, milk, sugar, and treats) warmed our hearts. The spread of information from the innkeepers sharing suggestions for things to do and nearby restaurant suggestions was most welcome (be sure to check out the Old Bell Inn pub within walking distance…great place for dinner and a few pints, but be sure to go early, as the kitchen closes by 8:00 PM and it gets very crowded). In addition, Paul is more than willing to help you plan your activities and sightseeing. With us, he was spot-on in his suggestions. Without his advice, we would have missed Craigmillar Castle and the John Knox House - two of our favorites. Truly, our stay at Barony House was one of the highlights of our trip, and we will definitely be back!

Hosts Paul and Susan are amazing, welcoming hosts. This hotel is the best place to stay for many reasons. From the luxury accommodation to the breakfast that is the best we had in the two months we travelled the UK. The location is super convenient with a short bus ride into the centre of the city. A truly fabulous stay in a wonderful and special small hotel.

We stayed at Barony House on the first leg of our tour of Scotland. Our stay at Barony House was amazing, the House and rooms are so beautiful and lovingly maintained, and Paul and Susan are amazing hosts! From the amazing original features of the House, to the delicious from scratch breakfasts, you can tell Paul and Susan love what they do. Paul is extremely knowledgeable of Scottish history and will give you amazing recommendations for touring the area and restaurants. They made our time in Edinburgh so memorable, we will be back!

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at the Barony House in Edinburgh and we had such a wonderful time. The house was absolutely beautiful, you can tell how much love went into decorating each room. We stayed in the Garden Room and it was so fun with its bright colors, as well as comfortable to sleep in. They provided in room instant coffee, teas, and even hot chocolates. These were a wonderful treat to warm up with after a rainy, Edinburgh day. In addition to the beautiful home, Paul and Susan were a delight! Paul offered great suggestions of places to eat and activities to do in Edinburgh. He was always wonderful to talk with and swap stories over breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, Susan is an amazing cook! Her breakfasts were always delicious and made to order. In addition to the menu items, there were always fruits, yogurts, and breads that were freshly made. We truly wish we had more time to spend at The Barony House, if our travels ever bring us back to Edinburgh, (which we hope they do) we would definitely choose The Barony House again.

We had two nights at Barony House last week - and I'm so glad we did !! The house itself is stunning with beautiful decor. Our room was lovely, very tastefully decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom and shower were excellent. Absolutely everything was catered for. The breakfast choice was seemingly endless - I had the cooked breakfast and the ingredients were very high quality. The best poached eggs I've had for a long time. Our hosts, Paul and Susan were lovely people, very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Book early to avoid disappointment.

An easy walk from the centre of town is the amazing Barony House. Our accommodation in the servants quarters was truly first rate. Down the stone stairs and through the big blue door was our haven in Edinburgh. A fully equipped kitchen and a spacious, tastefully decorated lounge/dining room at our disposal. The bedroom was large with a super comfy bed and a beautiful view into the tranquil, private garden. A oversized tub in the ensuite bathroom is big enough to drown in. Paul and Susan, the wonderful hosts, are welcoming and happy to help with great tips on dining, sightseeing and getting around. Susan prepares an exceptional breakfast - 5 star fare with so many choices you need to stay extra days just to sample all the delicious options on offer. When we return to Edinburgh this is the only place we want to stay.

Absolutely superb place to stay, and staffed by equally superb people! Paul and Susan have done a first-rate job of restoring this beautiful home. The rooms are very comfortable, we stayed in the Servant's Quarters room with the Garden, as well as generous. Loved the Scottish Sea Kelp soaps and conditioners in the bath. We spent a total of five nights at Barony House, three before our trip up to Inverness, and two on our return. While Barony has taxi-call buttons in the building, it is right on the bus route and we took regular advantage of the excellent Edinburgh bus service. Susan's breakfasts are top-notch as is the beautifully restored room they are served in. Wonderful method of ordering your breakfast the day before as well. If we return to Edinburgh we will without a doubt stay with Paul and Susan once again.

Barony House was an absolute dream! I had just completed hiking the John Muir Way and this was recommended by a friend - I’m so glad I stayed because it was just the pampering I needed! It was by far the cleanest and nicest place I stayed during my time in Scotland. I stayed in the Servants quarters but don’t let the name make you think it is at all “less than” because I had my own private garden, the bed was divine and the shower was bigger than the standard narrow standing showers you find around most of the country. Outside the unit was a huge lounge room with a dining table and a full kitchen. They also have a simple taxi button to summon a ride with ease. The owners are incredible knowledgeable and have great recommendations for the area and explorations. I’m so glad I went to Craigmillar castle and Rosslynn chapel since they are probably easy to miss outside the city’s greatest hits, but these are amazing destinations! But the food is five star all on its own! Suzie makes a divine meal! In addition to your main of which there is a lot of variety (the Australian pancakes are heavenly), there is an amazing assortment of homemade goods including pastries, fresh-baked bread, homemade yogurt with compote, fresh berries in individual mason jars, and plenty of beverages. I could have lived here!!! I’ve already told all my family and friends to stay here because the owners are amazing and they clearly put in a lot of work to offer a five star experience all around! I can’t wait to return!
