The Horseshoe Inn

Have wanted to go to Horseshoe for a very long time, so hubby booked for my birthday this year. I was really looking forward to it. Booking in was easy, we asked about secure cycle storage (as per their web site) no-one seemed to know anything about it so showed us cycle rack in car park!!! Bikes safer on back of car, which we reversed into hedges for security. Room lovely and clean, but no robes, again as per website! Asked for them at the bar, still waiting! Staff muttering about my request, saying "....not a 5* hotel" Felt a bit embarrassed, not really the feeling you want on a birthday weekend. On plus side I was surprised with a lovely complimentary dessert after my dinner, but sadly not the experience I had hoped for, wouldn't go back

I am only writing this review for my family members who visited one weekend not long ago for lunch, before even going for the meal they bumped into the owner in the car park who noticed they were not going straight in as they were going for a quick walk then coming back to go and get lunch, the owner then tossed the out the car park and was extremely rood to them even though they were coming straight back to eat, when they did come back and had lunch wich was great no complaints there the head chef is top notch but during there visit the owner continued to give them dirty looks and once when serving behind the bar was once again quite rood to them,

On arrival after a 3 hour journey , we were informed their boiler was broken . There was no heating or hot water ! As it was an old building and find weather , we decided not to stay . Very disappointed they didn’t try to contact us earlier with this information , especially considering the amount of e mails received from booking and to save us a wasted trip and petrol costs .

We were on our way to Peebles and saw this place and pulled in for lunch. We were greeted immediately as we walked in and given a table in the bar near the fire. Such a nice setting. The food was perfect home cooked pub grub which is exactly what we were after. The chips were as the menu stated “Proper Chips”. My wife still talks about them, they were very tasty! I had a big juicy Beef Burger and it was delicious. My Wife had the Chicken burger and our daughter had the Scampi and then had a huge scoop of ice cream and strawberry sauce. The staff were great! Friendly, accommodating, attentive. They could teach some places a thing or two! One of the ladies immediately brought our daughter crayons and colouring in pages without any delay. It’s the kind of place you can just sit and relax, have some food and few drinks. We can’t wait to come back. We will have to figure out some walking trails so we can walk off our grub after! Fabulous, and thank you! 😁

We stayed overnight here and enjoyed an excellent meal in the restaurant. The staff were friendly and efficient, the food was excellent. The room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. We had breakfast the following morning, the menu was extensive, all cooked beautifully and served with a smile. This was our third time staying here and we will be back!

We are staying in room 5 for two cosy, comfy nights. The room is quiet, (within The Old School House) and has a huge and comfortable bed, including a mattress topper, feather duvet and velvet throw. It’s nicely decorated and feels homely and welcoming. Also there is good storage, a kettle with tea/coffee and Irn Bru, plus (those so moreish) Tunnocks Caramel Wafers and en-suite bathroom facilities with complimentary toiletries. Menus at breakfast and dinner are quite extensive and the food has been much enjoyed. We would definitely dine and stay here again. The staff have all been lovely; approachable and efficient.
