Great site next to the Abbey ruins. Walks across the bridge over the River Weir. Aldi and Sainsburys close by along with a great fish and chip shop. Durham is a short drive away with plenty of parking or use the park and ride. This is a site we would return to if touring the area again.

We enjoyed our visit around the ruins but would loved to have some information boards to help us with which part was which. But fantastic setting next to The river. Toilets clean but lack of staff to ask about site

Just come back from this beautiful peaceful site and can't wait to go back. We stayed on T3 fully serviced, ok so they aren't level but went prepared and it took 5 minutes extra to set up. That's what caravanning is all about.

I regularly cycle over to this beautiful place for peace and quiet and sometimes buy a coffee at the little cafe. But be please be careful. I arrived by bike at 5.30 one evening and was walking with my daughter on the banks of the river. We became aware of a man shouting at some walkers telling them to get off the property These people said they had seen some cyclists ( us) and assumed people could go for a walk there. The gentleman (?owner ) became more and more aggressive began shouting at us reducing my daughter to tears then walking right up to us. Another man came up in a golf trolley and seemed to be supporting the first man . They said there were signs stating people were not allowed on the property after 17.30 . The only sign I had seen stated that one was not allowed to park a car in the picnic area after 17.30 He showed us a sign at another entry point near a foot bridge but this implied there were no toilet facilities after 17.00 not that you would be extremely unwelcome after that time. I don't want to discourage people from visiting this wonderful site close to Durham City. Just don't go late evening unless you are prepared to be verbally abused in a very intimidating way. Reading other reviews I'm not the first to have found staff less than accommodating

Gorgeous surrounding spoiled by staff members swearing, screaming, insulting and threatening our family. Not only would I not recommend, I would seriously worry for vulnerable people being around such nasty people who are just aiming to bully and intimidate. They even went as far as to take the mick out of my dad for being deaf. Despicable humans.

Never been spoken or treated as badly as I am was by the staff here. We are new residence to the area and decided to show the family the beautiful site only to be verbally abused by the caravan park staff. They targeted my deaf father in law, prodding fun and trying to to intimidate by getting in our faces swearing. This is extremely worrying behaviour and I worry for any vulnerable people staying at the site. Not entirely the warm welcome we expected to the area.

I have never left a review before but I felt the old woman serving food really deserved one. The priory is absolutely lovely, but the kitchen/food place, being privately owned, is not. First the old women tried to tell me what to have, making it seem she was not willing to serve anything except 2 items on the menu. I ordered "scones with cream and jam" which turned out to be as distasteful as her - try whipped cream on some sort of square shaped, sugared tea cake, bready thing (looked liked something from Tesco Everyday Value range). If these were scones, then i was Bojo. On returning to politely raise the issue of false advertising she seemed ready for me/used to making a stand. I had a receipt but she was totally uncooperative, hostile, & making me question my view of reality (some passers by confirmed that these, indeed, were not scones and that whipped cream was not the norm in county durham). Also £4 for the skinniest cheese toastie on a paper plate filled mostly with cheap crisps to cover the space. feels more like they just care about quick profit rather than their fellow humans beings...
