Southern Palms Beach Club

Just returned from southern palms and wow what a fantastic hotel. I requested a room with a great view for a friend who hasn't been abroad for many years and celebrating a big birthday they provide us with a beach front room just steps from the beach couldn't have been any better, thank you so much for that. Staff all friendly from cleaners to security and all the others in between. Water is provided all day by the pool ,definitely needed . The beds and pillows are so comfortable and air con is fantastic. Had a welcome gift on arrival in our room which was a lovely touch along with tea coffee and juice in fridge wasn't expecting that but really appreciated it. Restaurant has a good selection of food from breakfast to evening meals and I thought it was very reasonably priced.plenty of sun loungers around and about and on the beach. If you have a lounger on the beach they give you a flag to wave if you want anything they bring it to you, brilliant. really Can't fault this hotel I will definitely be back. It's sat on dover beach which is my favourite.

After seeing some negative reviews we did wonder have we booked the right hotel for our first visit to Barbados, well the hotel was fabulous. I can understand that some may find the rooms a little dated, but personally if they modernised, it would take away some of the charm and quaintness of the rooms. We had an ocean view room, and the view along the beach and out over the Caribbean Sea was fantastic. The staff at the hotel were outstanding, attentive, always pleasant, and helpful. We had tried to book some trips whilst there through the tour company but with no success, reception managed to get the same trips for a better price and on the days we wanted without any fuss, we then trusted them to arrange our car hire and once again they came up trumps. The hotel offers sun beds and chairs on the beach, with staff happy to put them wher you want and fetch a parasol. When we go back in the future we will definitely be staying at the Southern Palms Beach Club

Hotel has a fantastic location on the white sands of Dover Beach. Rooms are clean, very large and had a great sea-view balcony. Furnishings getting somewhat dated and could do with a refresh but not a major concern. Great facilities with 2 pools which were never crowded and sun loungers also available on the beach. Breakfast buffet very good, although pricey if not booked as part of a package. The key thing that lets the hotel down is the slow and chaotic service in the bar/restaurant by the pool. It could take up to 30 minutes to get served and equally long to get the bill. Situation not helped by the fact that they were implementing a new billing system which either didn’t work or staff hadn’t been adequately trained as half the time they were hand writing bills. As a result we never bothered dining in the hotel at night and plenty of other good restaurants in St Lawrence Gap (recommend Mimosas, Harlequin and Primo). If management sort out the service ( which has been noted in several other reviews) this could easily warrant 5 stars.

Where to start!! Ok good points... lovely views rooms ok. Turtles in the sea. Cocktails are strong.. rooms are basic with kettle and fridge that's it nothing else. Our room when they bothered to turn up to clean it wasn't cleaned! Toilet stank of urine since the day we got here and sides were never wiped over. Restaurant just don't bother!! 2 hours to get a salad which got sent back as was just bowl of lettuce nothing else I orderd. 4 nights we went to eat and 2 of which we ended up walking out and grabbing street food as was seated and then completely ignored no menu no water nothing noone came to us at all but others served straight away.. bar you get ignored. If you are American and tip big you get treated completely different.. Just made us feel invisible the 2 weeks here! After complaining to manager nothing changed!other guests said the same thing that they get ignored.. I orderd 2 coffees and just got eye rolls and lady wouldn't even look at me! Their are a couple of lovely staff but only when you have been here 10 days they talk to you! Beach has NO shade at all the cople of palm trees on beach people get up at 5am to reserve them for the shade! Same with pool only about 12 sunbeds with umbrellas no more about.. if you don't get up at 0530 to put towel on you don't stand a chance and the sun is HOT!. Entertainment was good steel bad couple of nights and singers. Was nice. Sea is rough here on Dover beach had red flags up last few days so be wary of strong current.. so all in all we made the most of it there were 4 of us 2 couples in our late 40s .Most the guests here are elderly and American.. and staff are RUDE and just genuinely don't care! Never staying here again 😔

We have been visiting Barbados for 30 years and Southern Palms is the worst hotel I have stayed in. Definitely would not return. We stayed for Xmas and New Year and the customer service is terrible, I had pointed out a few issues we had during our stay at checkout and instead of apologising, they argued on every point I made and was told that I was basically a liar. I was beyond fuming! If that hadn’t happened, I maybe would have stayed again on a room only basis, as the rooms were fine and cleaned every day, and the beach was nice, with plenty of sun loungers, although no umbrellas, so you had to find a palm tree for shade. The bar service was non existent, they just ignored you and the restaurant was no better, we tried having lunch, but you would have to wait forever to get served, so we had lunch next door every day. The breakfast was okay, but Happy Days across the road did a better breakfast. We did stay for dinner only once on Xmas Day, which we had booked 10 months in advance. We were not seated in the restaurant but on a terrible table the other side of the bar. The buffet was awful, $120 US dollars per person and there was hardly any food left when we attended the buffet. So would not recommend eating or drinking here.

This was our first ever trip to Barbados and we chose Southern Palms based on it's location and great reviews. We were not disappointed! We booked an ocean view room and boy did we get an ocean view!! (The pictures attached to this review were taken from our balcony.) The room was huge, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The bed was comfortable and great pillows! Not that you want to spend any time in your room watching tv when you're in paradise but ours had a smart tv that had Netflix, Prime etc. so if you wanted to log into it, you could. Given the idyllic nature of it's location, you could be forgiven for thinking it'd be a struggle to get a sunbed either on the beach or around one of the pools but it wasn't. Yes, you still get those people that will go and put their towels out first thing and stake their claim on sunbeds they have no intention of using until several hours later BUT, there are plenty of sunbeds and lots of space so we never had an issue getting beds/finding a good spot regardless of the time of day we chose. I want to take the opportunity to give a shout out to Makayla who looked after us all week with drinks service. We literally did not have to leave our sunbeds whether we were on the beach or poolside, Makayla was making sure we could totally relax! We loved the idea of having a flag for use on the beach when you wanted to order something, that was really cool! The steel band on Sunday lunchtime was very good! We really enjoyed listening to them from the beach. We were on a room only basis so we only actually had 2 meals in the hotel (one breakfast and one lunch.) Both were very good and it was easy to charge things to the room ad-hoc given we opted not to book any meal packages. The location of the hotel in the gap was ideal for us. Nice and easy to wander out in the evenings with many bars and restaurants on the doorstep to choose from. All the staff we interacted with at the hotel were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble. If you're looking for a stunning place to relax and re-charge your batteries, you couldn't go wrong with Southern Palms! We hope to go back as soon as we can!
