Stayed here as part of a coach holiday. Hotel pretty much as expected. Dated. Grubby stair carpets. Very small room. Dated bathroom but decent shower. The lifts are not level with the floors so you either end up walking up or down eight stairs. Breakfast is really good help yourself buffet. Evening meal poor would be better not to do them.

This was a fantastic hotel. We were travelling as a group on a coach trip, myself and my mother so had a twin room. The room was right at the back, but we had 4 windows and a side view of the hill, very quiet and lovely. Upon arrival from the ferry we were ushered into the dining room for our first meal. Well it was beautiful. In fact every 3 course meal we had was fabulous. The food prepared looked appealing and tasted great. Such a choice to be selected in the morning for that evening. I should not have read the reviews and just gone on the experience itself. Yes its and old Edwardian building, and maintenance I would imagine is expensive. The beds were very comfortable and a good nights sleep was had. The view out to the bay from the lounge was lovely watching the horse drawn trams trot by. I have to give a shout out to the restaurant team. The waiting staff, we young locals, they were professional, efficient and did an amazing job, you always get some grumpy grouches and they dealt with them really well and whatever their future chosen career is working here will stand them in good stead. The exterior of the hotel is fine although no wheelchair access. The reception area is ok but once through there is a need for a complete up date and maintenance to windows ,doors and lift. The bar area was fine for a hotel rated as three star. We stayed there on a coach trip with most passengers well over 70. The bedroom we had was small with windows directly onto a wall from the building next door. There was mould on the windows and rust on the catches (partic the bathroom). There were clean towels each day. The dining room was ok and served a good breakfast. The evening meal was ordered at breakfast time, there was a choice of 3 starter, mains and dessert plus tea or coffee. It was however poor, there was no finesse in the dining room , if 4 people dined your plate was collected as soon as you had finished and not collected when all had finished. All evening meals were plated up. You were given a time of 7.00pm for evening meal but on one night we arrived at 7.25 and the restaurant manager was most unpleasant and informed us in front of all guests if we weren’t there by 7.15 on future days there would be no meal.!! There is a right way and wrong way of dealing with this kind of thing and this miserable character chose the wrong way. After the meal my wife went to speak to her and said “she was the rudest person we had ever come across in the service industry “ she replied That she did not want to discuss it as she works so hard”. It was mentioned to reception and the manager saw us and agreed that her manner of dealing was not good and apologised for the way in which this matter was dealt with. All in all a poor week which will not be repeated.

Having stayed at The Hydro hotel for 4 nights on a coach trip, I must speak as I find, as normal on coach holidays they usually use 3 ⭐️ hotels so my expectations are never really high as long as room & bed are clean which was the case here, but also the food was excellent & most of the staff pleasant & helpful. My room was on the 5th floor & after alighting from the lift there was I think 6 stairs to walk up to reach the room. The carpet in the passage ways wasn’t the best but that was insignificant. Bar prices were reasonable I was paying £3.60 for a drink & along the road another hotel wanted £7.00 for same drink. Hotel is on the promenade with excellent views, there is seating outside the main door but unless you smoked it probably isn’t a place you would want to sit. Overall I had a lovely stay 👍

We stayed in the Hydro for six nights during an Eclipse Coach Tour. We were allocated room 405 which was very small and unsuitable for double occupancy. It had an equally very small shower cabinet which we had to squeeze into. The staff were friendly and the dining room service very good. Sadly the evening meals did not match the service with the main courses on occasion being inedible. There was evening entertainment in the bar which was too small to allow all members of our party to enjoy.

Coach holiday with Alfa travel a nice clean hotel with friendly staff and excellent food we had no complaints the food was always piping hot and the restaurant staff had to use a napkin to handle the plates, I would recommend anyone going on their free days to buy a day ticket for £19 which can be used on busses trains trams and horse drawn trams

Hotel is very, very dated and in desperate need of refurbishment. Our room was large and comfortable enough and the bed/towels were clean. However, the room was extremely cold. It was double glazed but obviously well past it's sell by date and in need of renewal. The bottom window pane was an opening one and you could freeze food with the cold draught that came through it. The heating was on but radiator rarely got hot - it was somewhere between lukewarm and tepid and obviously not adequate enough for the room. There were damp stains on the ceiling, wallpaper was peeling in parts and black mould spots on the curtain lining which says how cold/damp the room was. We were with a coach party and just about the whole coach said their rooms were cold. Some had side sea views and others had front sea views (which was what we had) so it wasn't just our room that was cold. Tea/coffee/milk is replenished daily as are the towels. One time when the towels were changed we were left with a dirty/"rusty" stained hand towel which was promptly taken back to reception. Having said that the staff are very helpful, friendly and bend over backwards to make sure you have a pleasant stay. There is a good choice for breakfast and you choose your evening meal from the menu at breakfast. Some complain that they don't want to choose their evening meal when having their breakfast but in my opinion by doing that it creates a well oiled restaurant as when you come down for your evening meal, as soon as you sit down you are served so there's no waiting. I personally don't have a problem with that scenario. Evening meals were varied and there was an excellent choice for a 3 course meal finished off with tea or coffee. If something wasn't on the menu and you would like it, just ask and it will be done for you.
