Secret Garden Chiangmai

We love the secret garden! Isabel was super helpful from beginning to end Peter and May were wonderful hosts this spread out compound east of Chiang Mai. This is a budget friendly Hideaway about 30 minutes from town, so be prepared for that, but they have bikes and scooters you can use and a wonderful Countryside to explore! If you're looking for a five-star hotel experience this is not going to be your place, but if you are looking for a private bungalow with a friendly relaxing atmosphere this is it! Tim and Maria

I titled my review essentially the same as i did in April, 2023!! Yes, I went back to the same and even greater experience than in April of 2023! Smooth pick up at the airport and greeted by Pai the wife of the owner. I was escorted directly to my room with no one concerned about Payment as that is far down the line in there eyes! YOU matter first and your comfort and needs! It has not changed! Peter, the owner is his usual pleasant self and a great conversationalist! The first Bungalow i had was the same one i had back in April 2023. Such a well organized bungalow just right for me. But i wanted to try a different one so i was moved to one closer to the dining area like one minute away, haha! It was even better than the one i was staying in. Aircon, microwave, fan, TV with MANY international stations, bed was comfortable and well suited for my needs! I am on a particularly odd diet due to health reasons. So Khun Pai and Isabel (daughter of Peter and Pai who is ABSOLUTELY A WONDERFUL LADY) They saw to it I had just the right foods for my meals. Way far and above that you would expect from ANY other resort! They did not have to care that much BUT they DID!! All the staff were very pleasant although many could not speak English. Cleaning staff were great! They saw when i was at breakfast and then go quickly to clean my bungalow! I always tipped then with Bhat and chocolates! I was there during the rainy season. Isabel brought me an evening meal when it was raining. I had no problems with the 2 bungalows i stayed. Someone was always there to assist or answer any questions. WELL YES! It is in a peaceful setting. Lovely scrubs, plants, flowers with you waking up to the birds singing. Its a Marvelous resort for families, with a pool tool OLD or YOUNG it is a GREAT, GO TO RESORT! I will be back, see i have to go back. Time is limited. Make it a mission to experience SECRET GARDEN You, as i said before, will not regret your stay! Thanks Peter, Pai AND OF COURSE "ISABEL'!

Second time here and we had an amazing stay with our family (8 year old and 11 year old children). The hotel is just outside of Chiang Mai, and we loved seeing the local area including using the free bikes to ride through the Paddy Fields and to the local Umbrella making factory. It was also cooler outside the city centre. Taxis (Grab) were cheap into Chiang Mai (around THB 150). The hotel is in beautiful grounds and the , pool was perfect to relax by. Izzy and Pai were brilliant hosts and gave us suggestions of things to do. Also the home cooked meals were delicious and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend, especially if you are looking for something a bit different outside the busy city centre.

My family consisting of wife and 2 kids (6 and 10) didn't really want to stay downtown and these beautifully built and landscaped bungalows were just perfect for that. A feeling of being more rural but within quick and easy reach of downtown when wanted. The staff were lovely and the family that runs and built the resort are just so approachable, kind and informative. The food was clearly cooked with love. This is hands down one of the best places to stay in the Chiang Mai area and at a very reasonable price too.

We just had a truly magical few days staying with Pai, Peter and Isobel at The Secret Garden Chiang Mai and we have left feeling as if we have made some wonderful new friends for life - we travelled with our two teenage children and we were instantly made to feel like family in a home away from home . A mix of Thai and Mexican buildings amongst a range of tropical flora, the Secret Garden lives up to its name. The family are so kind and genuine. We enjoyed learning about the history of how the Secret Garden came to be and how previously, it was a series of workshops making a range of goods from furniture to marionettes. Nothing was too much trouble and Pai and Isobel arranged our pick ups and drop offs and even did our laundry. We ate the best home made ( with love by Pai ) Thai food of our trip and Pai goes fresh to the market every day to pick up the ingredients and you are welcome to go with her and watch her cook . Peter is super interesting to talk to - a wealth of knowledge about so many things and the whole place is decorated with his art and carvings . From the very first contact Isobel was wonderful- so helpful with all questions and couldn’t do more for us - she’s just gorgeous ! Honestly this is the **only ** place to stay in Chiang Mai - an oasis of calm just a short ride out of the noise of the city - what an absolute gem ! Once you've stayed with them, I cannot see how you can come to Thailand and not stay with them again. With much gratitude - we will be back xx

We have worked in the service industry for over 20 years and have never experienced such genuine and kind hospitality. This amazing family welcomed us with open arms, and we spent 10 wonderful days here. Peter shared his story of how this inspiring place came to be, and it set a special tone. There aren’t enough stars to rate an experience like this. The home-cooked meals were beyond delicious, and the conversations delightful! Isabels' recommendations on what to do in the area were perfect. We’ve been traveling for 7 months with a 10 and 5-year-old. She intuitively knew what we’d like to see and do in the area to make our stay relaxing, and fun with a splash of adventure. She arranged a driver for us to see a beautiful waterfall. We visited a local Christmas market and water adventure park that was so fun! One morning at breakfast, she delivered a bag of plasticine that turned into days of crafting. We helped make handmade ornaments and decorated their tree. It made a Christmas away from home, feel like we were at home. My 10-year-old son and I hung out in the kitchen one night with Pai and Isabel. Recipes and stories were shared along with many laughs. We felt like we were hanging out with friends on a Saturday night. Being with people who touch the minds and hearts of others, reconnected us to what matters most. To be in good company with good people, swapping a story, sharing a fantastic meal. It doesn’t get better than that. Peter, Pai, and Isabel are a family who care, deeply. You sense it throughout the stay. You see it in the smiles of their team and guests. It sets such a calm and joyful tone. To find places in this world where you can truly connect with others, your loved ones, and yourself again is rare. I wish others the gift of experiencing this beautiful place and people.
