Hacienda Jimenita Wildlife Reserve

I cannot rate this beautiful hacienda highly enough! We had two nights here in total and both nights were peaceful and relaxing. It was a joy to sit in the viewpoints (of which there are many!) and watch the beautiful hummingbirds and many other endemic species of birds around the wildlife reserve. Our room was beautifully furnished and very spacious and the bed was very comfortable! Food at the restaurant was excellent and service was brilliant. Everyone working here made us feel so welcome and everyone was so kind. If you're looking for a relaxing stay outside the bustle of Quito definitely choose Hacienda Jimenita and continue to support them to protect the wonderful array of endemic species they protect in the reserve.

I cannot say enough great things about this hotel! The staff were incredibly kind and accommodating. All staff we met went out of their way to ask how they could improve our stay. The rooms were very large and comfortable and quiet for sleeping. The property of the hotel was a highlight with beautiful flowers, architecture, and birds flying around. While there, we fed the llamas, hiked a short 40 minute loop to a canyon, and were led on a tour of an underground tunnel (all included in our stay). The hotel food was delicious and reasonably priced. It was a fantastic place to stay with family and I would imagine it would also be great for couples or groups of friends, as well.

This beautiful and unusual retreat that seems to be far from the bustle of Quito is only a few minutes from the airport. If you like nature and peace, this is the perfect place for you, My room was spotless and lovely, and a short walk to the restaurant. The food at the restaurant was very good (the local chocolate cake was amazing), and it was a good place to relax and enjoy the scenery. I stayed there because I was told there were lots of hummingbirds that frequented the feeders, and that was true. I was able to capture some incredible shots of some hummers that frequent the area, as well as some other local birds. I would certainly stay there again, if in the area.

Comfortable rooms, great food, friendly helpful staff. Very interesting grounds, with beautiful gardens, and great birding. Check out the Inca Tunnel. It's 500 years old and quite mysterious. I was able to see many new birds at the numerous feeders.

This unique gem of a hotel with its restful and beautiful grounds, helpful staff, and comfortable rooms feels like it is many miles removed from the urban sprawl of Quito. In reality it is a 20 min ride from the airport and offers both convenience and comfort. I stayed here for a total of four nights over the course of a 12-day birding trip that whipsawed between Quito and the high Andes, the West Slope, the East Slope and the upper Amazon basin, and eventually back to Quito. While the tour operator, Ecuador Birds Tours, owns the hotel which explains why it was the hub of our travels, this kind of hub and spoke itinerary is pretty standard in Quito-based birding expeditions. I stayed in the old part of the hotel, and the rooms were commodious, beds comfortable, and the plumbing worked. My only complaint was that the lighting was inconvenient and dim - even allowing for high energy costs it was pretty anemic. Others in my group who stayed in the newer rooms reported that they were very nice with good views, which the older rooms did not have. The hotel's extensive grounds offer what appear to be excellent birding (and indeed I picked up my first-ever Vermillion Flycatcher and Golden Grossbeak while loading up at 6:30 as we headed out for the second half of our tour), but our schedule didn't really allow me to see them. Staff was helpful in all aspects, including picking up our luggage at 2:30 in the morning for our absurdly early departure from Quito, and the food was good. I would stay here again in an instant for anything that required a hotel convenient to the Quito airport. My only caveat is that the hotel is under what appears to be the common approach path to the Quito airport - it is not overbearing because the aircraft are on their approach rather than climbing out, but you will be aware of it.

This was a great experience. The staff were very helpful and courteous. The room was comfortable with a great view. The food was very tasty and well presented.

I loved my stay at Jimenita! We stayed in a house - which was lovely, totally updated and well-stocked. The food was excellent. The setting is beautiful (and very convenient to the airport!). I had an amazing massage (thank you, Kenya!). And the staff were just incredible! Was here for a team retreat and the hotel staff were amazing in supporting us. Also, I had to pump breast milk during my stay - which was made quite difficult by the scheduled electricity blackouts! I had to rely on the staff for help so I could pump and safely store my milk even when the electricity was out. The staff could not have been more accommodating towards me. Highly recommend overall! My colleague has stayed here many times over the years and also strongly recommends. Hope to return and stay for longer sometime soon!

This property was perfect to begin my holiday. From organising them to pick me up from the airport where they were there waiting for me to the friendly demeanour of all staff. It was perfect to relax and get over jet lag with the lovely walks and beautiful site with many places to relax and experience nature whether the sun was out or raining (with lots of lovely sheltered views.

Absolutely charming rooms and very comfortable, complimentary breakfast, food was great and staff very attentive. The grounds are amazing, the history/views and the birding were awesome (we booked it to be close to the airport so the grounds were a lovely addition). Most definately recommend this for your stop in Quito!!
