CotopaxiPungo Finca Hotel

Stayed , regrettably, only one night on our tour of Ecuador. Hotel is perfectly located in the shadow of the Cotopaxi volcano affording some great views. The hotel is beautifully furnished and laid out . The room was large and well equipped with a lovely bathroom. Super fast Wi-Fi and an open fire lit by staff in the evening, 2 huge comfy beds. The owner , Juan Carlos , is very charismatic and endlessly helpful. Whilst there I was ill ( nothing to do with hotel, altitude sickness that was already gestating when I arrived) the manager himself no less came to the room with dry toast , water and advice significantly aiding my swift recovery. Breakfast is made to order and served at the table , it looked great and all who had it confirmed so . The staff all lined up to wave us off in the morning. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed a wonderful couple of nights here - very comfortable hotel with lovely staff and great food and - the icing on the cake- sensational, ever changing views of the spectacular volcano Cotopaxi. A bit of a bumpy ride to get there, but definitely worth the effort!

Unique hotel experience in a great setting. A lovely countryside Spanish hacienda style building with dramatic interiors and large rooms with aspects from both sides; all get a view of the rolling green hills and main volcano Cotopaxi. Lovely breakfast and dining room with further views. Good menu selection of popular items including fish, beef and chicken. Breakfast was served rather than help yourself. But you got what you would expect. Main lounge and bar has a drawing room feel with perfectly styled decorations. Solid bar selection of your beers and wines. The hotel is also great for events like weddings. Downstairs was a large room for a big gathering. Long corridors lead to room floors and also outside to a heated pool room. The depth is less than a metre so difficult to swim. But great to relax in like a big warm bath and you can look out at the countryside. There is no lifts but staff get your cases to each of the three floors. Rooms are huge and mine had two double beds, a big bathroom and shower room. Window has view of volcano too. The room windows are massive and can be opened to view the volcano properly. Due to poor weather during the day all guests on our tour got up to see the view from 6am. It was a magical experience and fun to see everyone either on balconies or hanging outside windows, or in the grounds. It was somewhat cold the time we were there so you could ask staff to put on the real fires that are in everyone’s room. These can then be managed by you or you call the fireman to come up and help get it going again or add wood. Up to you. This aspect is pretty cool and perhaps romantic for some. I did find the fire did not make my room as warm as I wanted and needed to add the extra blankets. The grounds have some children’s play area and this side has stunning views. You can also go on walks in the area. Note the hotel is away from the towns so you get there via farm style roads that are quite bumpy. Staff are wonderful. Big shout out to Juan and his beautiful pet dog. He and the staff were very attentive and you felt looked after all the time. A lovely stay at a stunning hotel with a breathtaking setting.
