The Inn at 97 Winder

The hotel looks fancy in the outside but not in the inside as I got a broken flush on the toilet bowl and shower which has so much drains!! The reception Denise does not have a solution to fix it on the same night as I’ll be checking-out the next early morning.

I stayed here with a friend this past weekend for a concert that was a few blocks away. The building is beautiful and has some cool history. Check-in was at 4pm, and they made it very clear in a pre-check in email that they could not accommodate early check-ins. We arrived a bit early and knew we couldn’t check in yet but wanted to see if they would hold our bags (a backpack and a small duffle bag). The woman at the front desk was not very welcoming and pretty cold towards us - and her attitude didn’t change towards us throughout our stay. She did allow us to store our two bags until check-in…reluctantly. When we came back to check-in, the host that was working the PM shift was the total opposite - so friendly, and helpful. The room we stayed in was fine for the night. The only issue we had was that it was so hot in our room overnight. It felt like the heat had been turned on despite the weather being 80+. They had bagels, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, and pastries for breakfast which was a nice touch. I’m not sure that I would stay again, but it wasn’t bad for a short visit.

This was like staying at someone's house. The house itself is huge and beautiful. The staff is very friendly and helpful! Our room didn't feel nasty but it wasn't super clean either. The shower really needs a tray to put your soap on. Our bathroom didn't have a hair dryer. I think it was supposed to have one, there was a box on the shelf that I think had one in it at one time. They need a vacuum that will reach under the beds, they need to clean the upholstered furniture, and there's a few things in the room they need to update that are just worn. The breakfast is continental. No fridge in room but there is a shared refrigerator in the kitchen. The air conditioner is centrally controlled so you have to let the staff know if you need it cooler or warmer. Not sure if it controls all rooms on the floor you are or not. I did not see an elevator so you will have to use steps. The location is super convenient and within walking distance of Comerica Park. Just go to the end of the block and down the street and you're there. Note: walk to the left out of the parking lot (google sends you to the right when walking). I would stay here again unless I found a regular hotel with good reviews for about the same price.

I tried to make a July '24 reservation for my wife's and my 36th anniversary last November. I was told to check back at the beginning of April as the summer dates weren't in the system yet. I checked in late Match to find the date I wanted was blocked or sold out. It took until April 2 to get someone on the phone at which point I was told by a snarky young woman that even though I'd done as instructed others "had beat me to it" and that I was out of luck. Denise, who helps run the place is very nice, but there's a weird vibe from everyone else that works there. I would approach with caution. They are not customer friendly.

This trip was planned months ago. The pictures look lovely. The rooms themselves were quite tired, shabby and dusty. They really need a thorough cleaning and furniture needs repair. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our first night was freezing cold. (Maybe the inch of fist on the cold air return was affecting the hot air)). The housekeeper helped find a warmer night for our 2nd night. Still dusty. Wifi didn’t work in this room so no Netflix or phone svc. The shower had hot or scalding hot water, not cool. Advertised breakfast is bagels, toast and it looked like Hostess pastries. Expected more from this type of establishment. As I said, staff were kind. Might be good for owner to spend a night in each room.

Excellent location if you are attending a baseball game, a football game, an event at the Little Caesars Arena or Fox Theater, etc. Very walkable. Hotel is very quaint as it was built in the late 1800s. Wifi was abysmal. My only complaint. Shower is large, with glass to the ceiling. There is only 1 hook to hang towels. I would suggest they install a towel rack. Breakfast was plentiful and the large table allowed you to chat with others, or just enjoy by yourself. If they fix the Wifi and add in some towel bars, it would be a 5 star.

Not as pictured. 20+ old furniture. The bed was soiled. Unreasonable owner. Couldn't stay there after seeing this room. Asked for refund; they wouldn't change the comforter so couldn't stay there and I don't recommend this place to noone.

I would be careful booking here, the people who run this place are shady and dishonest AF. I made a reservation with them almost two months in advance. The day before my check-in, I received a TEXT to tell me that my reservation was cancelled due to a “maintenance issue”, and that they had been trying to call me, but with no success… turns out, it was the manager. First, no one from the Inn ever tried to call me. Second, they didn’t even have the decency to CALL me and explain it, just tried to brush it off with a text message. Third, when I called the hotel to ask what was going on, the front desk told me that it was a “plumbing issue” that made the room “unsafe” to be in. Now, what kind of a “plumbing issue” can’t be fixed in 24 hours that makes a room “unsafe”? They absolutely REFUSED to tell me what the specific issue was. I texted the manager back with inquiries, that person got a bit surly with their fake apologies, and insisted that it was NOT to be discussed. My guess is that either someone showed up offering more money so they gave my room away, or they just overbooked and were forced to bump someone. Either way, it’s a shifty operation and these people are not to be trusted.

We loved it! Great architecture and an enjoyable visit. Our room was absolutely beautiful and we had a comfortable nights stay! Check in is only between 4-8P so that’s something to keep in mind when staying here. After 8P you are unable to check in so we made sure we were there before 8P to make sure we didn’t forfeit our reservation. Would stay here again!
