The perfect place to get relaxed, home away from home. Highlight of the stay was the staff. Beautiful and friendly. The best I saw in the business . The food was amazing, prepared, and served with love. Service is so so good. Heavenly peaceful nature.

The concept of the hotel as a retreat is very nice. Huuuge property with beautiful nature everywhere you look, which you can explore by the free-to-use bikes they offer. The view from our room into the nature and to tge mountain was beautiful. We liked the architecture of the rooms and the restaurant area with the window facades. We also liked that there was no music in the restaurant area to be able to enjoy the sound of the wind, trees and animals (especially birds). Also, as the hotel has only nine rooms in total, you have a lot of privacy. Actually my friend and I have only seen two other guests one time at dinner but had the pool all to ourselves (but we have to say that we have been there during low season). The staff of the hotel is very friendly and attentive. If you have any wishes/needs they are happy to assist you with anything (e.g. the FO manager helped us to book the train from Kandy to Ella). The best feature of the hotel for us was the food, which was included in our room price for 2 nights. For breakfast they have a Sri Lankan option and a western option (we chose the latter and enjoyed omelette and nice fruits and sweets). Dinner was excellent the two nights. Well-thought 4 course menus that are changing every day, including starter, soup, main course and desert. Every course was a gusto. Also they cook a lot with their own grown plants from the garden and you can really taste the difference between these fresh nutritious meals and the frozen fish and vegetables in Germany. We really LOVED the food. The only thing we would improve is the maintenance of the hotel. The walls, windows and the pool could be cleaner. Also the sun loungers could be renewed as well as the bikes and the roof covers. If maintenance and restoration in the hotel would be improved, it is without doubt an amazing place. Just a little tip on the side: the time we were there it was very windy, especially during the night. The wind was very loud and the roof cover made noises due to the wind. So if you are noise-sensitive and can’t sleep when it’s too loud, better bring ear plugs 🫠🙂

Best and perfect blend of comfort , luxury and breathtaking view with relaxing nature enviorenment . highly reccomended for couple who needs relax and comfort getaway. foods are yummy too . friendly staff clean and quite environment. Absolutely worth for the money

Great nature retreat, very comfortable and set in a beautiful complex of untouched nature as well as food farms. We were able to have the karanda suite and it was lovely staying in there. We were able to watch the bats come alive at night and sleep during the day. The room itself was fine, kept in a modern style and comfortable. A few things that didn’t work right was the turn down service. Both days we took a trip arranged by the resort and our room was not turned down during the time we were gone. We had half board and the food was really good and enjoyable.

We stayed for three days to visit the cultural Triangle and it was perfect! Beautiful location and very kind staff. Food was really good and presentation of plates were excellent! They help us to arrange all tours and early breakfast bags. Fantastic!

Kalundewa retreat is a scenery, calm and adventurous place with nice surrounding.The service is amazing and we had a memorable stay.There were so many activities to do and things to see.If any one needs to have a experience in a rural village enjoying various cultivation crops,this is the first thing we would recommend.Ths staff was amazing and so helpful especially Kanth front office manager since he assist me from the reservation and operational manager,Ushan,Buddika,Anuhas they made our stay beyond our ecpectations.Food was amazing and we really enjoyed it.Thank you all for making our day and feel us so special ❤

This is the most awesome place I have stayed. Large area of beautifully tended paddy fields, several very different lakes and paths throughout the grounds to walk or cycle. There are 9 rooms across different properties dotted around the grounds. All are very private. We stayed as a family of 4 in the Bakmee house (upper and lower) . It is right on a lake and the bird life is phenomenal. We had white egret, black headed ibis and hornbills filling 3 of the trees at roosting time only a couple of metres off our decking. The sound was amazing. There were lots of other birds but also water monitors, turtles, huge fruit bats, peacocks ,monkeys….. and more. The building was an amazing architectural piece. We felt very lucky that this was our accommodation as we hadn’t specifically chosen a room. The building is very modern and nearly all glass so we felt very close to nature all the time. It is well air conditioned and the rooms are beautiful; glass walled, so looking straight out to nature sitting in bed when the blinds are up. The whole estate is absolutely stunning. Cycling and walking round was fabulous and so peaceful with lots of wildlife to spot. The food is very good with a large menu. The service at dinner was very friendly and attentive. We took breakfast in our house which felt very luxurious. The breakfasts were vast and very tasty. The only down side is it needed a good clean. The blinds are old and patterned with squashed insects and we even had a ‘pressed gecko’! It has the appearance of having had a quick wipe round only rather than cleaning the corners of rooms, behind the sinks, the mirrors etc. There is an unusable outside ?shower or ? Bath. This is not clean at all and was rather unwelcoming. The inside shower is very good though. The huge panes of glass are dirty from the first floor up in the cathedral living area. I appreciate cleaning these higher pane would be hard. The utilities store for the cleaners is enroute to the main entrance of the property ; the door ajar and smells. Several features need some maintenance like faulty electrical blinds and leaking taps. Servicing of the room and clearing breakfast was intermittent and variable and the plunge pool cleaning had to be requested. We were not informed about the full potential of the place - like a separate large swimming pool at the far side of the estate or what activities we could do there- kayaking, lake boat ride etc Despite my negative comments above I would be back like a shot as it was the most surreal setting I’ve even been in. It would be fabulous if the other reviews had been actioned with improvements to the general cleaning and maintenance to showcase this venue to its full potential. Come and stay if you like a beautiful,quiet, very different setting,very close to nature. I suspect the experience would be very different in each of the properties here as they are all very different and situated at different parts of the estate.

What a beautiful location and what a great service! This is truly a ‘hidden gem’ just a few km’s outside Dambula. Great to stay a few nights to visit Lion’s Rock, Dambula or even Polonnaruwa. The front desk can arrange all your transportation. Good rooms, great food and as said: super friendly staff. We loved it!
