La Cremaillere Hôtel-Restaurant

My wife and I enjoyed a short stay in this hotel during early July. The room was very comfortable with excellent sea views from the top (second floor) of the main hotel. Access to the bedrooms, in this case, was through the restaurant, which could be awkward for some people. The food in the restaurant was absolutely first class, especially the seafood dishes. The staff in the restaurant were friendly and helpful, but the staff on the reception desk were not welcoming and not particularly helpful.

Delightful, and for anyone visiting the nearby British War Memorial you could not find a better or more convenient hotel. Our room in an annex overlooking the sea was charming. What let it down was that apart from making the bed, the room was not cleaned while we were there and the person who walked us down the street to show us our room made no effort to help carry our bags. Although I am a fit 79-year-old it would have been nice not having to struggle with luggage up two floors of a slippery outside staircase. Excellent, if rather expensive restaurant (£110 for a two-course meal for two with a 50cl pot of wine!) which filled up so advisable to book.

While the location is right next to Juno Beach and this hotel has a very nice restaurant, staying in the annex across the street leaves one “stranded”. The phone has no connection to the front desk and there is never a real person there anyway. If you have a question or problem, you will have to wait until morning to see any live people here and they will be the guests or the lady putting out the croissants. The rooms are decent but nothing special. No air conditioning so if it gets hot in the room, you will have no other option but to open the sliding glass door to the outside for air to enter. The breakfasts in the lobby are nice. If you are scared to be left completely all alone without a living soul at reception if you have an emergency or a question, this annex part of the hotel may not be right for you.

The hotel is spread over several buildings in the village on or very near the sea front. We stayed in the garden rooms which is a modern building, clean and comfortable with its private car park. Breakfast served in the building. The dining room in the original building overlooks the sea and the food there is excellent. Ask for a seat with a sea view if booking in advance.

Booked this hotel so we could visit the local area, what a find! This hotel consists of the main building and several "satellite " locations all within a very small area and no more than two blocks from the ocean. After a very warm welcome at the main front desk, we were given our keys and directed to our room. We were fortunate enough to be in "the cottage" which contains 10 rooms. Our first floor room was extremely well appointed, spotlessly clean, (well done housekeeping) , top marks for the tea making facilities, (don't often get these on the continent). Our room was large, quiet, with a very comfortable bed, we slept well and made good use of the exterior blinds shade the room. Did not find the lack of air con a problem, even though the temperature was unseasonally warm in the high twenties! We opted to have breakfast at the oceanside hotel, the short walk along the beach to get there was a lovely start to the day. The continental style Breakfast was of good quality and there was always plenty of it, staff attentive, friendly and helpful, all in all we really enjoyed our stay, thank you

We were surprised to find our room was in another building about 150 metres away from the well advertised hotel. This was not really a problem, there was ample parking and the room was good comfortable if rather small. We had dinner at their main building, which we understand is just a restaurant, and after some initial abruptness by the head waiter, we enjoyed a pretty good dinner with friendly service. We would probably stay here again.

Restaurant review: A modern restaurant on the sea in Normandy. A good sized menu with a lovely mixture of traditional French cooking and more modern tastes, preparation and ingredients. From the glass enclosure on the 1st floor up there is a pleasant view of the sea and a restrained lively atmosphere. Several multi-course menus, 15+ a la carte items, smallish wine list. Friendly bustling wait service. [we are "hard graders": we know 1st class food, service, and ambiance]. Has parking. Recommended.

We arrived on a cold, wet day and were told we had been given an upgrade. Yes, it was a spacious room with a sea view but I couldn't help feeling rather cynical as it was a little way from the hotel and I suspect guests who had arrived earlier may have requested to be as close to the hotel as possible. As there was no heating on in the room, we thought we'd go to the bar while it warmed up. There is no bar, nor a seating area in the hotel. We'd booked directly with the hotel but often cross-reference with booking sites to check on facilities. According to *********** there is a bar so do be aware of this. Maybe there is an outdoor service in the summer months? Most of the accommodation is in surrounding buildings and as there are no hotel facilities, it feels like a restaurant with rooms. It certainly lacks the warmth and friendliness of other Logis we have stayed in. La Cremaillere appears to have a good restaurant but we had booked to eat elsewhere. Despite the interesting menu, we were actually pleased we had done so, as we would have had to chose between two fixed sittings. Were we to return to Courseulles, we would find somewhere else to stay.

Really friendly hotel, right on the beach promenade. We stayed in the Residence across the road, which doesn't have sea views. Room was very clean and well-designed - sockets in all the useful places, full length mirror, great shower. The food was great and the service impressive.
