Ocean View Hotel

I made a reservation and changed it 3 days before my expected check in date at this hotel, but I never received a refund. Since they were the ones who sent me the confirmation number I made An attempt to phone them to check the process of refunding as their email said I will be refunded within 8 days. They mentioned booking. Com has not forwarded my payment to their account which left me perplexed ever since November 2022.

As a previously frequent patron of Ocean View Hotel in Coffee Bay, I regret to express my profound disappointment with the recent quality of accommodation provided during my most recent stay. The establishment failed to meet expectations set by previous experiences and the enticing imagery portrayed on social media. My family encountered multiple distressing disappointments throughout our stay. The limited and unsatisfactory restaurant menu, especially for children, coupled with missing amenities such as a fisherman's deep freeze, raised concerns about the hotel's preparedness, particularly during a peak season. Upon arrival, the meal options failed to cater to children's needs, along with subpar food quality, was highly unsatisfactory. The unavailability of basic items like Crème soda and milkshakes in a kid-friendly establishment added to our disappointment. The most alarming aspect was the discrepancy between advertised and actual room conditions. A booked "sea view" room offered no view due to overgrown trees, and the room's state was far from what was portrayed online. Subpar hygiene, leaking ceilings, low water pressure, and insect infestations made the room inhospitable. Further discomfort emerged as we encountered leaking areas throughout the hotel, including the restaurant and bar, and observed unclean pool facilities and dilapidated common areas. Our distress reached its peak during the night, plagued by mosquito bites and encounters with cockroaches in the room, without any insect repellent available leading to a sleepless and uncomfortable night for our family. Despite expressing our concerns to the front desk during checkout, the lack of acknowledgment or follow-up left us disillusioned about the hotel's commitment to addressing these issues as they seemed aware yet didn't address them adequately. Given these distressing experiences, I sent an email to the hotel management expressing our concern and giving full detail of our experience and respectfully requested a refund for the second night's stay, reflecting the unsatisfactory conditions that prompted our premature departure, the hotel cited their cancellation policy and offered only partial compensation, which didn't match the extent of our dissatisfaction. Despite the hotels awareness of previous negative feedback, our concerns echoed those same sentiments and It’s disheartening that despite prior warnings, the hotel has not taken concrete steps to rectify these long-standing issues. Managements apparent acknowledgement of these problems, yet their inability to resolve them adequately, speaks volumes about the establishment’s priorities. It's regrettable to note that our experience aligns closely with other travellers’ grievances, as seen in numerous negative reviews online. Pros: * Beautiful seaview * Friendly staff * Good food Cons: * Management not involved * Smelly dogs begging while eating supper * No mention of load shedding - power just goes off during supper * No water on last day & no communication * Rooms poorly maintained * Felt unsafe on the beach and were harassed by locals.

The road to the hotel is very poor. How on earth does the ANC let this happen to their own heartlands, less than 50km from Mandela's home?? The hotel is nice, simple and clean. They could do a lot more for the surroundings. Litter on the beach, the road in the hotel, glasses left out for 3 days on the outside tables. Food is more than adequate, with more than enough quantity. Unfortunately the hotel does not have backup power and the local cell towers do not provide coverage. Expect to be disconnected for more than a day. But the place is beautiful, remote, and the staff more than willing to help. If you stay, do eat at Zak's beach restaurant. You WILL NOT be disappointed. Pity the hotel didn't keep him on to run their restaurant.

We spent four nights there arriving on 31st December, great anticipation for seafood supper. What a letdown, some mussels in a solid sauce, frozen fillets, a yellowtail fish. No prawns, no Calamari, can understand no crayfish as the season was closed, what a let down. However the remaining nights food was okay, a different roast every night, only query was that they served the same dessert every night and most nights the jelly was mostly liquid. I found the staff to be great and most helpful. Our room upstairs was fine but again the whole place needs fixing. In the front there was a piece of the facade that was broken and looked terrible, easy to fix. The sunbeds around the pool all needed to have a coat of white paint and it would have then looked much better around the pool. So easy to trim the palm trees of their dead palms. The biggest problem is the road leading down to Coffee Bay, one of the worst I have ever driven. It needs to be fixed so that the area can take advantage of the tourism growth. Would recommend a visit but please folks give the hotel some tender loving care, even you staff complain about the lack of maintenance.

The rooms looked nice and we used the beach in front of the hotel lots ( we stayed in Coffee Bay for 10days ) We had the buffet supper and it was excellent lots to eat and the food was good quality The lamb chops were delicious and the cheese board really nice and unexpected in such a remote spot
