YHA Buttermere

Great location of this YHA hostel is the only reaolson i would consider staying in it again. The whole place is in a poor state of maintenance. Showers are covered in black mould and alot of it which is a serious health hazard. Silicone in toilets is yellow, dirty. Room's floor is entirely covered in carpet without even a small area of solid wooden panels so it is a no surprise that carpets are dirty due to the shoes of all the people that ever stay in there. Table tops of some tables in the dining area are peeling off posing a serious risk of cross contamination with the food, which could be a problem with the kids dining, and all it takes is a bit of distraction for the parents to miss a moment when kids would pick dropped food on the table with some of the table itself. That is all basic common sense. On the good note though, staff was polite in all areas, especially at the reception. The difference between the state of repair and overal cleanliness between this YHA and one in Keswick is significant, with the YHA in Keswick being of way higher standards. Shame as location and historical significance of this place has an amazing value and potential.

This is a beautiful, well-run hostel in an exquisite location with easy access to the lake and fells. Simple clean rooms, tasty breakfast and friendly staff is a winning combination. Everything a youth hostel should be.

Mountain therapy Wonderful solo stay at YHA Buttermere. Perfect location just a stones throw from the main hotel and cafe which is nice. Friendly staff and guests, good facilities. Wifi poor but why do you need it when staying here! Will definitely come back

Camping trips at YHA Hostels are so much easier co. Pared to setting up in a basic field. No need to bring all your own cooking facilities as you have access to their Breakfast and evening cafe facilities, or you can use the self cook kitchen. Views here are great and the lake is just a short walk away. Good bus connection to keswick. Only 1 camping pitch, but there are 3 pods in the same area. It was quite windy on one of our nights and so extra pegs are advisable. The grounds also quite rocky to get pegs in.

Went here with the other half and our toddler. It is very much the usual YHA experience. The room was a good size, the bedding was clean. The staff were very helpful, and the whole vibe of the place was extremely pleasant. Would very much happily stay here again. The only downside I can think of was the parking, which proved a little difficult. But other then that, not much to say. The surroundings of the hostel are stunning, if you are planning on walking around then I'd suggest taking care as there aren't a lot of walkable paths by the YHA to Buttermere.

Stayed here after walking from Keswick,the hostel is situated just up from the lake and is in an excellent location for walkers in the lakes We got checked in easy and got settled in our rooms,we had supper and breakfast here and the food was very good,only downside with the food was that sandwiches are no longer provided,with us.doing a linier hike we were hoping to restock supplies for the day ahead. The rooms were comfortable but unlike Keswick we had a shared toilet and shower along the corridor,not an issue for us but some may not like that,there's facilities in the hostel for self catering with a kitchen and fridge and also a couple of huts out front Decent place to sleep,eat and hike will book again if in area
