Visited Glenncarrig as part of their fish & stay packages in September 2024 with 4 other friends. Accommodation was great, clean and comfortable; shared spaces (games room and lounge) were great for winding down at the end of the day. Hospitality was great, both Mary and Luke were friendly, welcoming and very accommodating. Foodwise, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner were part of the fishing package; every meal was delicious and portion sizes were very generous - I ended up leaving half a stone heavier than when I arrived! Standouts being the fresh scones that came out with breakfast, Tuna and Apple baguette for lunch and the Fresh Pollack and chips! Had some time to check out the local scenery and the walks along the coast road are lovely and fairly flat heading west to Kilbaha and onwards to Loop Head. For those interested in birds, there's plenty to see while walking past the fields and marshland, highlights being Marsh Harriers and loads of Curlew; I wished it taken a book for the species as there were loads of small birds in hedge rows I didn't recognise. Inshore there were a lot of terns and gannets with the offshore highlights being Great and Artic Skuas, sooty shearwaters and lots of storm petrels. It was great seeing the bottlenose dolphins in the estuary, there were seals in most little bays but the big highlight was the basking sharks jumping off loop head; we saw them from the boat which was awesome and really close, but seeing them off the headland was fantastic as you could see them reacting to each other over a large area. If you are in the area at this time of year, I'd highly recommend visiting the lighthouse to watch these massive animals jumping! Another lovely place to visit is the Bridges of Ross would be a lovely place for a picnic! Would recommend visiting and especially taking advantage of the fish and stay package!
