Snug Harbor Marina and Hotel

Prime location, but for the price, these cottages are not worth the cost. You cannot do any better for a location to launch your boat, crab off the dock, or enjoy the beauty of the area. That is really what you are paying for since the cottages are very outdated and could use some serious TLC. Fair value would be $150 a night all-in....past that you are paying too much. Of course, for peak time periods, options may be limited, but know you are in a no frills space so the cost is for the location and the convenience for the add-ons (boat rental, guided kayak cruise, etc). Also be aware that you get charged a lot for absolutely everything, including $39 to check-out late (just 3 hours) or early (just 3 hours)--not as an add-on for traveling and paying a premium there. But again, you get the convenience. Service is good. Not great, but solid. Still not justifying the expense.

I spent 5 nights at Snug Harbor, in what was advertised as a "1 Bedroom cottage", but which was neither one bedroom nor a cottage. It was actually a tiny studio motel room that shared a wall with other rooms on both sides, with plywood paneled walls and a futon with a broken frame for my son to sleep on. You could hear people in the rooms next door, and the bathroom was so small that you couldn't really have two people in there at the same time. And, for this I paid the same rates I'd paid the year before for a whole week in a large, 2-bedroom house in another location. Not what I'd envisioned for my once-a-year family vacation. But, once I kissed the money goodbye and resigned myself to the accommodations, I actually had a really nice time there. As other reviewers have mentioned, John, who runs the place, is really nice. I highly recommend renting one of his little motorized skiffs for fishing in the channel. The water is calm and you can go see the horses while catching all kinds of fish (we even caught a puffer fish). The dock there doesn't have a swimming area (you have to drive across to Assateague for that), but it's great for relaxing, fishing, crabbing. And, the view of the lighthouse and the channel is awesome. All in all, I'd give it a mixed review.

This place is not as good as described on their website. The views were pleasant enough but certainly not "grand" or "wonderful". The cabins themselves were ok. They were pretty cramped and dated. We have stayed in Chincoteague before and stayed at a hotel on Maddox which I certainly liked better as we were close to all restaurants and activities without even having to get in our car. This place was too much away from everything. From reading the website as I said you will think you are going to be staying at some wonderful place but don't expect much.

My husband and I stayed here in July 2005 and it was ok. I can't say anything horrible about the place but it was nothing to write home about. The one good thing was the water view. The cottages were fine,a little old but fine.Not worth the price I don't think. They didn't seem to have enough staff to accommodate all the people who were there. The layout was nice,they have an area with 2 bars and also chairs. My husband and I didn't feel comfortable going to the bar though. We go to Chincoteague to relax and have some peace and quiet, it was a bit loud at the bar for us.I probably wouldn't stay at Snug Harbor again.

What an awesome job our guide did!!! We would definitely do again and recommend. She gave us great history on the island and the surrounding areas. We gat a chance to see the ponies. She took pictures and send it to us. Be prepared for a workout.

Best place on Chincoteague for nature lovers. All cottages are close to the waterfront and close to the National Park! The wildlife is unbelievable. Too many birds to count and the wild ponies roaming along the marshlands. A dream come true for my kids and me too!
