Very strange place indeed. The Crown clearly attempts to market itself as some sort of upper class dining experience - yet the service we received from the management before we even arrived was extremely below par. (No one bothered to reply when I made an enquiry about our dogs at the time of booking. An awful lot of upset could have been avoided had they done so.) And once inside the pub, that poor level of service just went from bad to worse. My mother's main course was taken away before she had finished eating it by an elderly woman who made it very obvious indeed that she didn't want us in her pub. Had it not been for the friendly and attentive young ladies who also served us - along with the very nice food - we would have walked out after that incident and refused to pay. To be honest, I still can't believe they had the audacity to charge us, bearing in mind we were also shoved out the back to finish dining in the scullery because 'other people' were so offended by our two foster dogs being with us. (See my Open Table review) An absolutely dreadful experience - for which the proprietors have shown no remorse. Unfortunately for this 'upmarket'venue, one of the people dining with us last Sunday is actually an hereditary peer. You can imagine the furore this has caused within his circles.
