Chelmsford (Springfield)

Awful hotel - have stayed here many times over previous years but NEVER again. Have contacted customer services before writing review but have had no response. Have got many photos to confirm my experience. Charges applied additional to room prices.

Stayed here for 2 nights to attend a wedding in the area. The check in process was slow which wasn't ideal as it was late and just wanted to get to bed. Breakfast was average and felt unusual to call it unlimited when cooked items had to be ordered via a server. Food was nice when it arrived though. Location was convenient and did the job.

Stayed here for two nights. I would say it’s good value for money if you’re staying in a winter month but staying in September isn’t something we would do again. We literally got zero sleep because the room temperature was above 27 degrees with only a broken fan to help us out with that and a window that opened by about 3cm bringing in no air. We were in room 219. I think had it have been a winter month it maybe would have been ok but like everyone states it is in need of updating, the floor is creaky as hell, I’d imagine anyone underneath would have been having a horrendous time hearing us walking to the bathroom or to get dressed in the morning, also the shower was pretty much non existent I’d have been better off waiting for it to rain and getting washed outside. Parking is a bit of a rip off at £14 for two nights..

Friendly and efficient staff. For the price we had bland breakfasts which was overpriced. We had to pay to park at the hotel which is only accessible by car. No phone in rooms and poor reception/wifi so unable to contact reception at any time. Hotel needs updating. For this level of accommodation we expect a lower rate.

Our stay was to be for two nights I order to attend a nearby wedding and was two nights as we were travelling from Cornwall to Essex. 300 miles! The hotel was the nearest budget hotel to the wedding so was ideally placed. However, the rooms had no aircon and our room (216) faced a busy road and work going on on the railway next to the road. Temperatures in the room reached 26 degrees with the fan supplied giving a little relief from the heat and masking some of the e ternal noise. The restaurant staff were less than dynamic appearing less than enthusiastic about there jobs. We had to ask for things that had run out on the help yourself displays and, on the second morning, had to prompt the waiter to take our cooked breakfast order and then ask them where it was when it took forever to arrive. And the restaurant wasn’t busy. For us it was to be a bed for the night (2 nights) so was conveniently located. But you expect them to get the basics right. We are fans of Premier Inn and have had good stays at other locations. This site needs a refurb. The one positive was Brooke the receptionist, who was lovely.

AVOID. A rip-off on parking. We stopped for breakfast and were told explicitly that, as temporary guests, we had no need to pay for parking and were shown directly to our table. 10 days later we received a parking ticket from Horizon. Direct phone numbers for the hotel and Head Office Customer Support are listed on the website but NEVER answered as we attempt to get Premier Inn to intervene. I am left with no alternative but to appeal to Horizon - an appeal which I'm sure will fall on deaf ears

Impossible to sleep in this hotel. The room was 27.5 degrees even with the window open and it was September. I hate to think how hot this would be mid summer. But with the window open the noise from the truck park next door and the A12 just made it impossible to sleep. Once we both had a shower in the morning the temperature in the room became completely unbearable. I had to get dressed and do my make-up in the toilets near reception and my hair became a frizzy mess due to the heat. We were staying in the hotel as we had to present a work exhibition in the area so we needed to be rested and looking our best. Instead I was a hot sweaty frizzy mess. We were meant to be staying 2 nights but there was no way that was happening so we checked out. Would never stay here again. I gave it 2 stars as the staff were lovely. Very friendly, helpful and attentive.

When we arrived we had a balance to pay for our two night stay. The card machine appeared to work fine but the Premier Inn computer system said our card had been declined. This was attempted a number of times with the same and different cards. Staff were assuring us it was a problem with our cards and we were not being charged for each attempt. It was obvious that it was the Premier Inn payment system at fault. Staff eventually took down our card details manually and said they would take a payment when the system was back up and running. When we checked out we confirmed they had taken a payment successfully and asked them to confirm that we hadn't been charged for the failed attempts. We were told all was fine and only one payment taken. We have arrived home (we don't have a mobile banking app) and found that we now have been charged 7 times for the stay. Each payment was successful and over £1000 more had been taken from our account. The other disappointing issue was being kept awake by the 24/7 construction work being carried out just a short distance away. This was a major project, looking like part of the new rail link. Heavy plant machinery and teams of workers all night. Surely if you were planning a stay at this Premier Inn you would want to be informed prior to booking that there were these major 24/7 works being undertaken? Often hotels will highlight on their websites when there could be disruption... We have used Premier Inns many times and generally find them okay. It is disappointing that these issues happened on this occasion. I do not generally write reviews but I felt this needed to be said as I would hate others to not be aware of the potential problems that we experienced here.
