Sleep Inn & Suites Port Charlotte-Punta Gorda

1st room smelled like wet dirty dogs. The 2nd room smelled better… black mold, cracked plaster, 2x4 holding up the sink, maintenance had to fix the shower and the toilet. We used the guest laundry front load washer and now we’re going to a laundry mat because our clothes smell like mildew.

We just arrived last night, so I may bump this review up a notch if the next two days go well but our experience on arrival last night was a trip into the twilight zone. I had booked two rooms,one for myself and my wife and another for my daughter and her fiance. When we went to the rooms, my kids key cards worked ours didn't. No big deal, happens all the time. So, my wife went down to the desk (probably about 9:30 at night). The desk clerk tried ghosting her. My wife could hear her in the office, but she wouldn't come out to help for five minutes. After an 11 hour ride, I'm sure my wife was a bit feisty but this was just strange. The clerk finally came out and she refused to rekey the card. Instead, the clerk insisted my wife had used it incorrectly and she would come up to the room to show us how to use it. Now, I may not be Albert Einstein but after a few decades traveling I think we know how to use a key card. In any case, she came up (complaining that my wife wasn't at the door - as she took the steps upstairs) and voila! The key cards didn't work. So, she let us into the room with her master key. But, instead of re-keying our cards she insisted the problem was with the lock on the door. Now, if that was the case you'd think the master key wouldn't work but hell what do I know? So, instead of getting us new keys the clerk insisted any time we wanted to get into our rooms to stop by the desk and someone would come upstairs to unlock the door. This morning, I got the keys replaced and like magic they work just fine. Other than the weirdness, everything here seems fine. Rooms clean, breakfast what you expect and the morning clerk (Cathy), well she was great. But, you're off to a rough start Sleep Inn.

It was a last minute trip for business. I was very skeptic just based on the location. But ok, I was somewhat surprised. The lobby was clean, the room was clean and bed neatly spread and tucked well. Not sure what I was to expect based on the reviews I read. But I had no roach issues, oh trust me I searched. My stay was only two nights though. But my stay wasn’t bad at all. The only thing I didn’t like was the brown carpets in the room. It needed to be stretched not sure if it got wet from the hurricane, but it made the room look a bit dull. Was not a fan of the carpet!

This place is a filthy dump. It is very old and outdated.. The carpets have stains all over them..the walls are scuffed and marked.. Rooms are very nasty and they smell terrible. Bugs are everywhere.. The place seemed very sketchy.. Druggies accosted me in the parking lot..which had no lights or security cams..I felt very unsafe and was so disgusted that I left and went elsewhere. I can't believe this rat hole is still in business.. They clearly don't care..front desk staff was rude and unprofessional. Avoid at all costs. There are lots of very nice places nearby that are much safer.

After a long road trip from Ohio, I was ready to check in and catch up on emails and stretching out, Vanessa was excellent, she had my information and roon ready, she offered suggestions for food places thar deliver and she was smiling the whole time which is great to see in the evening hours. The room looked fresh and was spotless. The breakfast buffet was one of the best since Covid, I didn't catch her name but she was smiling and very pleasant as well. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

We were told that the rate for our stay would be 122.00 a night, we stayed 2 nights and was charged 244.00 a night. Bathroom had no Exhaust fan, elevator had candy all over. Would not stay again, certainly not worth 244.00 a night.
