Mingxilou Inn (Chaozhou Ancient City Paifang Street)

This seems to be a small boutique business. The workers were nice and try to be accommodating as much as they can, but staff are limited in number. Please be aware that the building you get might be a different building. I booked with the understanding that the inn had an elevator in the listing. However upon arriving we were told we would be in a different building without elevator. It is within Paifang Jie which means streets are closed to cars most of the day. You could be walking 15-20 minutes from car drop off with heavy luggage on uneven streets with obstacles like cracks and barriers to prevent cars, without ramps. Not recommended for elders. The hotel doesn't have a way to come pick you up and the independent operators of manual bike carts don't have anywhere to put your luggage. The street is crowded with both pedestrian and people on motorbikes, dangerous for pedestrians. The inn itself like many other China hotels has steps at entrance without railings and between rooms, and some pathways are filled with gravel/rocks, not suitable for rolling luggage. Photo is of the disposable towel which seems to be common for inns in China. Language wise, the staff spoke Mandarin，and some do not speak Teochew. A plus is the smart sitting toilets, hair dryer, water included, access to the street with lots of food options. It is nice if you plan to spend many days on Paifang Jie and don't have accessibility needs.

Not bad just the location not reachable by the drivers furing drop off and pick up

Location was convenient for both sightseeing & excellent food. There are two blocks : Main block (newly built) & Annex block (renovated). We requested to change to the Main block after a night stay at the Annex block. Somehow the toilet has a foul smell. Service staff was friendly & responsive & can recommend good food!

The toughest mattress I’ve ever slept on..the room listing is titled “Deep Sleep Mattress…” - that’s highly questionable, imho you can literally feel each spring underneath. The auto-toilet light is on constantly, and the bathroom door is made of smokescreen glass, so when you are sleeping you still see a blue glow coming through the glass door. The toilet seat has black scuff marking, one of the bath towel has blood stains. Water doesn’t drain well in the sink nor in the shower. The redeeming points are the location and the helpful staff. As for a comfortable stay - not so much.

Located in a little alley off a popular location, lots of eateries and sights nearby, very convenient.

Perfect location at the heart of the old city, tugged in a small alley. Quiet enough for a good rest & exciting enough for tons of food options around!

The location is great. Staffs are helpful and friendly. Room is cozy.

The place was clean and comfortable, making it a perfect retreat after a day of exploring. Its location is fantastic, situated close to popular tourist attractions and renowned restaurants, which made planning my itinerary super convenient.
