Heidekönig Hotel Celle

We (4) travelled to Celle as a special trip, via Köln, to show our English friends the joy of German Christmas markets. My wife was born in Celle, and it was to be a nice area to visit again. We stayed for 4 nights. The Heidekönig was a good base to access the area and family in Hannover. The hotel rooms, in the annexe, were modern and functional with good sound-proofing and heating (November!) No English BBC News on the television, just some poor French channel in English. With the current rabble in power, that was probably a blessing! The beds were good and comfortable. The breakfast was fine (see below) and the other meals in the restaurant adequate. You have to pay as you go, with no charging to your room for meals or drinks. We found the whole visit was value for money, and, although I agree that the management were not over-friendly, (the female receptionist was) we did think that our visit was good. On the day of leaving at 06.30 for a 12 hour drive to England, I was a little surprised to be charged 10 Euros for 4 cheese rolls as a travel snack, from our breakfast table, but business is business! A mug of tea was free!!! Every Euro counts these days, but we did spend over £1100 Euros there!!!

We were two couples staying for a couple of days. 25 minute walk to the old town of Celle. Free ride with bus for hotel guests (did not try the bus) We felt welcome at start - but slowly this feeling disappeared in reception/ restaurant. We were not loud or misbehaving so we were all wondering; How can you run a hotel and make the guests feel not welcome… Hotel is nice and clean. Breakfast is OK but nothing special. We only had breakfast; I noticed that most guests arriving for breakfast were welcomed with stoneface and a demand of the room number - which would be okay AFTER you have said “ goodmorning” (maybe even with a tiny smile)….

Good room, which was clean, comfortable bed and newly decorated. Relatively modern buildings. Two night stay. Premises , opposite a large factory, roughly a 20 minute walk from the centre of Celle. Hotel kindly provide a bus pass to get into town. The first evening meal was disappointing. I got the impression it had come out of the deep freezer. - see picture. The second night they produced a pork steak and two vegetables - which was OK. The young lady who served us was very pleasant and spoke English well. Some of the other staff were brusque. The breakfast was adequate. Parking was secure. Staff attempted to shut the bar at 2200.

When we arrived at this hotel tonight as part of a large group the very first words the gentleman at reception said to us was “you are late you must come immediately to the restaurant”. As we were half an hour earlier than the time we had arranged to arrive we were quite surprised by the rude reception. The food we have been served in the restaurant tonight was very poor (laughable for a restaurant, tinned meat loaf, frozen mixed veg and frozen croquettes). One of the female staff members was extremely rude to the whole group of us. We were told we must go to bed at 21.30 not ideal for the group of us on holiday. Don’t waste your money staying here unless you just need somewhere cheap to stay or using it for work (but I am sure you can find places much better) The rooms are fine and one of the waitresses/ bar staff are very nice and helpful, otherwise a thoroughly miserably stay.

Amazing stay! Very good service and clean rooms. The most impressing thing was the awesome restroom in the reseption. At this price, the quality of the hotel is absolutely amazing! Germany realy show its good hospitality at this hotel! Recomended!
