There is a lot to say about the Sea Palace. Firstly the location is brilliant, straight across from the beach on the main drag into the "city" of Cefalu which is a 10 minute stroll away. Cefalu itself is not really a city, but a beautiful old town with lots of winding narrow streets. Back to the hotel! It is spotlessly clean and the rooms are well appointed. The staff are friendly and helpful and our check in and check out was seamless. The breakfast was good with a limited choice of cooked food and a wide selection of continental style breads, hams, and cheese etc. Weirdly they also had a stunning array of cakes if you like that sort of thing. The view from the breakfast room/restaurant is amazing as it is on the top floor. So you get panoramic views of the beachfront. There are however, some qualities in this hotel which can only be described as negative, even poor. If like me you like to exercise on holiday and you choose a hotel deliberately because it advertises a gym, then you will be disappointed. The gym is rubbish. There is one exercise bike and one treadmill. The bike didn't work properly and the treadmill was on the brink of collapse. There are some dumbbells and a squat rack with an Olympic bar and that's about it. If you advertise a gym, have a gym! The weirdest thing in this hotel strangely is the water situation. You are not allowed to bring in more than one large bottle of water to your room. If you do, the reception staff will confiscate it, and let you have it back virtually one bottle at a time. This is nuts! They obviously want you to buy water from them at €3 per small bottle. Having said that it wasn't that surprising as the bar prices are ridiculous at €8.50 per pint. Having said all the above, we had a wonderful week in Cefalu, but to be honest just used the hotel as a base.
