Castle Varagh Hotel & Bar

We arrived to see the hotel tastefully decorated for the Christmas Season with warm and inviting twinkling wreaths and Trees. A beautiful reception area with high ceilings with warm modern feel. We were greeted at reception with a smile and the fact we were early was not an issue. We sat and waited less than 10 minutes while accommodation confirmed they had our room ready, the early check in was very welcoming after our journey. We were signposted by the receptionist and the accommodation staff member. We were given all the usual but welcome information and dining options and breakfast. Our room was modern bright and comfortable, quality and unique soft furnishings giving the feel of a modern and not chain like feel. A truly well thought out decor. Bathroom bright and modern with large walk in shower and Quality toiletries. Hand lotion by the Irish handmade soap company was amazing to use. The bed and bedding of the highest quality and comfy. Food in the busy bar was epic, Brie and wings to start, chef’s special and Retro Carbonara for mains with Brownies and Pecan to finish. All the staff & the manager who personally spoke to us and checked on us are very warm and professional. Lovely local feel with that touch of modern class. We will return soon without a doubt. We commented that it’s been some time since we felt such hospitality and encountered food if such quality. Like the old days when hotel food was quality produce and nit widely available. The management and chef are obviously selective with their suppliers and the proof was in our pudding.

Went to this hotel today Dec 20th, meal with a close friend which had been her first time visiting. Food ok nice clean hotel. A group of girls obvious from the local secondary school, came in sat down and the lady whom I am to believe is the manger, with further inquiries I am told yes indeed she is the manager, this would in fact not be the first occasion of such! As she approached them, could tell by her demeanour she did not want them there. She then told the girls to go sit at the bar and they replied we are actually ordering food and then proceeded to, well I won’t say tell would rather say protested to them it better not be just chips your ordering! I nearly spat my food out! If this is your management team you see fit to run the floor, I for one shall not return.

Had lunch with family in the bar today. Really disappointing from both food and service perspective. Asked for no gravy on lunch and it arrived with gravy. Had to return same. Tha potatoes on our three plates were terrible. We didn't eat them. They were mashed and were very greasy almost paste like. I had to go to the bar to ask if someone could bring a dessert as we waited over 30 minutes. There is a carvery here at weekends which is better. During the week the food is brought from the kitchen. Not at all as nice. Lunch is not cheap here....95 Euro for three of us. Three main courses two starters and two desserts. Have been here a few times but won't be returning.

We’ve just come back from a fabulous night stay . We were met by Ciara on reception , who is most definitely an asset to the hotel. So friendly and chatty. It was our first wedding anniversary. We were telling Ciara that myself and my husband had met for the first time at this hotel 6 years previous when it was the hotel castlepollard. There is no trace of the old hotel now it has been beautifully renovated . On Hearing this Ciara upgraded us to a beautiful suite , where we were greeted with petals on the bed and a welcome plate with beautiful cakes . We were so overwhelmed by all these lovely touches, it made our first anniversary so special. We had our evening meal in Toms bar , food was beautiful. I had the salmon which I would highly recommend, my husband had wings which he would give 10/10 and a very filling steak for mains . No room for dessert portions are very generous. Breakfast was served up until 11.30 this morning and that was delicious aswell. We will definitely be back , thank you to all of the staff in the hotel for giving us lovely memories for our first anniversary ♥️ Tracey & Mick
