Catalonia Punta del Rey

Although the hotel has its glory days behind it, it is really clean and in my opinion well managed. During my stay, the guests were mostly retirees from the UK and middle-aged couples with or without children. The rooms are spacious enough, large balconies with a view of the ocean. The location is very good in the case of renting a car, I always rent a car at the airport so that I can freely explore the island, although there are few free parking spaces in the area, just drive around the promenade a bit and you can always find a parking space. The hotel's strong point is the kitchen. Breakfasts are standard full English and Spanish, while lunches and dinners are varied. Every other day or maybe every day there are theme nights, in my opinion the best was the Asian evening, with a full selection of sushi. Desserts also in a sugar-free version. As for alcohol, if anyone is interested, the bartenders, especially in the show bar during the performance, really do their job, they don't mess around with serving drinks to the ml, they just pour from the heart as you expect, they do it efficiently and quickly. minus for the fact that the gym is rather makeshift and young people have nothing to look for here. If it weren't for the fact that the weather during my stay was rather rainy and we didn't spend much time at the hotel, I would probably use the facility more. The animators are young and tried very hard. A big plus for the animators during the mini disco, who knew how to entertain the kids.

We stayed here at the end of February. The weather was lovely, and the staff were helpful. Our room was clean and suitable but dated. There were only two power sockets in the room. Ice from the machine in the lobby bar, hot drinks, and water machine. If you're all inclusive, you can help yourself to bottled water during lunch and evening meals from the fridge. Adult only pool is across the road, you need your room card to gain entrance, only for all-inclusive. Bus stop just over the road on the corner. Busses are frequent, you can catch another bus to most places the the main bus station. All day tickets from the shop back of the stairs, works out cheaper. A nice town if you take a still along the promenade, a few shops to browse in, and cafes to have a drink. There is not much variation with the meals. No allergen labels

Stayed 17-24 Dec for some winter sun and what a lovely breakaway for little money, staff all friendly and work tirelessly, food in the main restaurant was very good, to have baked salmon, smoked salmon, lamb chops, steak, king prawns,roast beef etc.. during my stay how can anyone knock the kitchen for their output of some very tasty meals and the Mr Whippy ice cream machine was a hit with all Yes the standard rooms are dated and showing signs of wear, we were allocated room 356 which was fine with a very powerful shower over a shallow bath. Basic complimentary toiletries in the room. Tv in room around 7 British channels Now to the pools we used the adults only pool with its infinity pool (located across the road) which is very modern and has a self serve drinks station including beer and soft drinks. Snacks are in a fridge and are restocked through the day, sandwiches, yoghurts, fresh fruits. Life guard on duty The main pool is mainly focused on families and has a greater selection of snacks through the day and a staffed full bar Entertainment at night is good and I enjoyed the Elton John tribute, and the circus show I had no reason to complain during my stay as the hotel and hard working team are an asset to the hotel. My expectations were surpassed for a 3 star hotel that offers soo much to it guests It’s worth a bus ride out to Candelaleria for around 1.8€ each way and also a bus ride to Santa de Cruz The Tui reps are in the hotel daily if you need assistance or would like to book a excursion if that’s your thing I would stay again and would hire a car so that I could explore other parts of the island at my own pace

So a Week has gone by, and here is me & wifes take on this place: -Staff and Other Crew are Great and hard workning, polite and serviceminded :-) -Regular rooms are good, but needs a make over, very small bathroom, but bed are great and fan is good. -Food is divers and there are something for all, even "fussy" eaters, every night there is a new menu, chosen from some country. We where there a hole week, and we did not get arround the hole menu, thanx to Simona for taking care off us a Diner servings. -Bars are there plenty off, every where you go, theres a place to drink, water, coffe, beer, sodas, the and differant Juice. -Entertainment is very divers, We saw Soul divas fra Cape Town, what a great show, there was a Female singer, that ran us trough alle the black female Singers from 70-99, she also did good. -New years eve, there was Elvis at the main show bar, and we did not like it, so we went to the Teide bar, where the resident female DJ played, and that was great :- ) she is on instagram as: Djluuh. -There is a lot to do all day, darts, petanque, pool, snooker and the animation teamare great at gettin people to partecipate. -There are sunbeds for everybody by the main pool, and i do NOt get the thing with people standing in cue, at theh other side off the road with theh infinty pool, we never had a problem with sun beds there. All in all a lovely place and we are sure that we will return :- )

Paid more(which I did for premium) but the rooms did not appear to be any better than a normal room just with a view of the pool and painted blue. Shower very dated and the floor flooded each time used. Wardrobe had door missing. The access to the solarium was good but the pictures of the restaurant attached give a mis conception that it belongs to the solarium and the hotel which it doesn't. Admittedly the jacuzzi and outlook was pleasant enough. The adult only pool was good but felt like being in a sardine tin. Beds so close together. Its a shame the area down by the man maid sea pool can not be utilized more and made to feel tidier and cleaner. The Al La Carte meal which having to pay extra for was like being in a glorified canteen. Lights on full. No ambiance at all. Felt very rushed. No time in between courses. Yes the steak was lovely, best part of the meal, not huge though. Most A la Carte meals are included with AI standard hotels? Entertainment was okay. Toilets not accessible on this floor when at the entertainment hall. You have to go to your room or ground floor. Even then not very visible or advertised as to where they are. Yes hotel value for money, not sure? Could do so much better and be able to charge more for it legitimately. Drinks were poor due to the quality of the mixers. We ended up buying our own. 3 Euros a shot at the bar for top shelf drinks paid 15 euros for a litre at the supermarket. Also purchased Pepsi from the supermarket. Take a unbreakable glass for drinks by the pool. Much nicer than paper cups. Would we return. No, maybe if all updated rooms etc even having to pay more, maybe.

Had to write a review after the various negative(some frankly laughable) reviews. A 5 minute look at google maps will tell you that this isn't a lively resort,do a bit of homework before you book maybe? Food = excellent Staff = all very friendly Room = a bit dated but cleaners where in every day Entertainment = Professional shows more or less every other day,staff led the others Things to do = 5 restaurant's and a couple of bars in the town,lovely seafront walk of about 20 mins to the next town with numerous restaurant's and a couple of bars. For what we paid we were more than happy with our 10 night stay and have never met so many people in a hotel who are repeat stayers,which tells a story. Benidorm it ain't but if you want a relaxing holiday would highly reccomend!
