On our way home from Florida to Orillia, Ontario. I made the booking from the car. The hotel was dumpy and when I walked into the room, I was greeted by a cockroach scurrying on the bed. My eye caught another disappearing into a fold of the bed cover and so I immediately picked up my bag - my husband was behind me and as soon as he saw it he turned - didn't even put his bag down. We went back to the desk - the clerk had gone to get food so while we waited I was on hold with Best Western customer service. When she returned, I hung up and explained that we weren't staying and why. She apologized, said she would have maintenance look at the room and said not to worry - she hadn't processed the credit card so we won't be charged. We went across the street and took a room that was double the price - it was late, we were tired, and at least we knew the hotel we went to was going to be clean. After 2 calls to customer service, a manager named "Diana" according to the clerk, denied our refund. So now we're out $90 American dollars - I am done with Best Western.
