Somy Plaza Calangute Goa - Formerly Somy Resort

We were allocated our which was a one bedroom superior family room with balcony,it was at the back of the hotel north facing very dark inside,the balcony overlooked a building site as a large hotel was being constructed right next to the SoMy.The noise of banging and hammering was too much,so we asked if we could move to the front of the hotel which the reply was yes but you have to pay more for those rooms as they have two balcony's,we were told it would be an extra £282 to move,but as we couldn't stay any longer in the room facing the building site,we had to pay out. The room we moved to was on the second floor right on the end of the block overlooking the games room.Its was much better than the other one.The hotel is just off a really busy road which you don't really hear from your rooms. The pool is lovely and you can always get a sun bed,there's also a restaurant on site with friendly staff,we used to go out most of the time walking into Baga and Cangalute.

Somy is located in between calangute and candolim great resort pool is lovely and plenty of sunbeds the staff at the resort are all friendly and welcoming cant do enough for you we stayed bed & breakfast they had fried eggs,bolied,poached and omelletes freshly cooked to order also pancakes on a few days with honey the usual toast machine which you need to put bread through several times to toast which is the same in most places also juice,coffee sachets,tea i would recomend taking your own mug as cups are small and your own coffee although you can pay extra for lattes made from coffee machine ,cereals,and fruit . You can purchase meals at lunch or evenings and they have pizzas,ect.....we mainly had picky bits like onion bahji,samosas, they where lovely .it is a lot cheaper to eat and drink out locally as they add on service charge at the somy and there plenty of places to eat a few recomends would be nirvanas (butter chiken anazing)in candolim,tonys place not far from somy but theres lots of places . You can walk to the beach its not far you have tge choice of cakangute,candolim or baga i oersonally loved xandolim as its quieter. The rooms,at somy we had a superior,pool view on the top floor lots of steps to go up and not great if your mobility isnt good the room was soacious,clean and had a lounge area ,bedroom,dressing area with wardrobe and bathroom 2 balonies one from bedroom and one from lounge it had air con which was great and ceiling fans as it was very hot and humid in feb tip take plenty of mosquitto sprays,plug ins although you can buy it locally in supermarkets overall somy was fab i would recomend for location,friendliness of staff and pool

First time at SOMY PLAZA ...... Normally stay at Nazri Resort Baga. Hotel staff ......generally excellent Bedrooms .....very clean and serviced daily Bar / restaurant .....great staff ...Vivian and the rest.....first class. But I have a BIG negative .....!!!! BE AWARE ..... SUN LOUNGERS ....... Certain guests always think it is acceptable to reserve sun loungers at 6am EVERY morning The pool does not open until 8am. The MANAGEMENT placed a notice around the pool saying ....This is not permitted and towels will be removed ...... THIS NOTICE may aswell of been straight in tge rubbish bin .... The very next day ...SUNLOUNGERS have towels on at 6am.....the pool attendant is aware and just said.......I do not understand What a load of hot air....... So......we will unlikely be returning and would not recommend anyone who likes a equal chance to get a sun lounger ....to avoid . SUCH A SHAME they do not enforce what the rule is they have made . MANY GUESTS I have spoke to feel exactly the same .
