Mumma's Hostel Cairns

This was by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in! The ceilings of our room were covered in mold and when we let the hostel know that this is affecting my health (because of a chronic illness), they did not even care. Apart from that I was bitten by bed bugs and there are wet towels on the floor everywhere because the rain can get inside the hostel. Such conditions are unacceptable, even for a hostel! Do yourself a favor and never stay at this hostel!

This place is a joke reception is rarely open, when it is the staff don't give a toss about noise and violent and aggressive guests and people stealing from other backpackers. It's a nice location, with privacy curtains on the bunk beds but it is so run down reeks of **** and bodily fluids from the pee stained mattresses. I would avoid at all costs, unless you want to stay with filthy toilets, gruby kitchen, smelly rooms and attitude from rude pot smoking staff. The authorities should shut this drug den down asap.

Was charged extra after checkout because the room was not cleaned enough. The thing was that the room looked terrible before we arrived with tons of rotten food and trash under the bed and also in every corner. The room also had like old “playwood” just standing in the room. In the room it was plastic on the roof so the sun woke us up every morning when it was sunrise. That’s not it! When we wanted to check in, no one was there to help us and we didn’t get any code or key to the room. It took a while for us to get help before we could check in. Worst experience we hade while traveling for 3 months. Would not recommend! Don’t risk 75 dollars fine even but you didn’t do anything wrong.

I don’t usually leave reviews on places, however this place was so terrible I feel as if I should warn other travellers. I’m currently travelling solo and was meant to be staying in the hostel for 8 nights, but I left after one night and didn’t even bother getting a refund I just wanted to get out of there. Check is supposed to be at 2pm but reception is closed till 3:30pm which is quite annoying. Doesn’t seem as if there’s any management just run by lots of backpackers meaning it’s quite unorganised. They also didn’t check any ID when I checked in which concerns me. When I got into my room I found that there wasn’t a light in my room on small bedside ones which means I could barely see what I was doing. As well as that the lockers were broken and this meant I had to keep my passport and cash on me at all times which was very annoying. The common area honestly looks like a crack den. The tv is smashed and it’s all very run down and dirty. I didn’t feel comfortable at all during my stay. And when I tried to make friends with one of my roommates she grunted at me and then complained when I was making noise trying to pack my back to leave at 4pm. As a solo female traveller I would really advise going somewhere else, there are many other hostels around that are just as cheap and still nice.
