Paxton Square Cottages

The cottage was fantastic. One of the original miners cottages with modern amenities. However the check in staff were a bit testy. I guess everyone has a bad day from time to time.

Fabulous cottage stay, with comfortable beds, cozy lounge room and great little kitchen. Excellent value and only a short stroll to the best bakery in the universe! Parking is off street and away from view. Amazing ambience and you can feel the history of this place. We’re definitely staying here again. A real gem.

Firstly note, keys need to collected from the caravan park down the road. The layout of the cottages are fantastic with a lovely square of grass with bbq and fire pit surrounding the 20+ cottages. The cottage it’s self is beautifully refurbished and modern while still keeping the magic of the miners quarters, just note this means steps in and out of every room which can be uneven. Only down side is we can head the people in the cottage next door. Allowed one night stays. Would stay again.

Upon arrival at the cottages, we pulled up outside the sign "office" but no one was there and it was locked up. I had to make a phone call to the office to obtain an address and directions to check-in. Upon arrival, the receptionist didnt even look up. I had to say good afternoon to attract her attention which was hardly worth the trouble as she was not welcoming or friendly. When we asked her for a recommendation for dinner, she answered, "no, there are only 2 hotels in Burra." Two bedroom, restored row cottage. Concept of staying in an ex-miner's cottage was interesting. Cottage was modernised but a few things let it down. For example, steps down to the bathroom and separate toilet was uneven and dangerous. The bathroom which was just shower and hand basis was poorly designed, consequently there was no bench space at all, nowhere for shaving gear, cosmetics, etc. Everything had to be placed on the floor. The light switches were pull-down. Nothing wrong with this as it was in keeping with the heritage look, however they were white as were the walls and you cannot see them easily. Despite all the foregoing, it was clean and well furnished however we will give it a wide berth next time.

these historic cottages are very comfortable, affordable accomodations with 2 large bedrooms, living room and full kitchen. The bathroom is modern and perfectly functional. Loved that the windows opened to the street! Stylish decor. picnic table out the back a nice addition

A super location, historic miners cottages and the best hosts. Easy to deal with operators, very helpful. The cottage is well maintained, for their age. The insulating properties of the rendered stone make these very comfortable. It's highly recommended that bookings are arranged, very popular accommodation.

Beautiful cottage, well appointed. Very clean, spacious. Nothing to fault. We only stayed one night but could easily have extended our stay if time permitted. Comfortable bed. Shower amazing and just a lovely place to stay.

Spent 2 nights at the cottages and had a lovely time. Were greeted with a large lawned area which was great given I had my dog with me. When we entered the cottage we couldn't believe how spacious it was (1 bedroom cottage for 2 people and a dog). Was very new and clean inside and all furniture was new, kitchen was a good size as was the shower and bathroom. Toiletries provided were generous. Lovely town Burra if you're looking for a bit of peace and quiet and some history. We will absolutely be back.

Lovely heritage accomodation. No complaints from that perspective. However, the female manager is the most unfriendly and difficult person I have met for a long time. Every person we met who was staying in the same accommodation made a similar comment without prompting. She should not be in hospitality.
