The Carnarvon Arms

The hotel is absolutely charming! The restaurant food was delicious at every meal, and the breakfast included both continental breakfast items as well as a full menu to choose from. Our bedroom and bath was great, with a double bed and plenty of pillows. We did have the window open for airflow and unfortunately had significant highway noise from the rear of the hotel facing the motorway. It bothered my companion, but I was actually used to sleeping with highway noise.

Absolutely amazing and magical place. From the moment you walk in you know you are in a wonderful place. The bar and restaurant is out of this world … food is fab and service great. We had an amazing room with tea/coffee making facilities and snacks (to buy). We had a bottle of champagne in the room which was fab. The breakfast is truly amazing. Couldn’t have asked for much more. We will be back!

Clean well made up rooms although room 104 is quite small - good breakfast shame run out of marmalade! (Tesco down the road….could get some from here out of petty cash ) - what seemed like skeletal staff worked extremely well with a smile. Checking in, serving drinks /food also, breakfast - Best chicken and hock pie so delicious

I was in Newbury attending a funeral having travelled down that morning from the north west of England. When I arrived earlier than check-in I enquired if I could check-in earlier as I need to change into my funeral suit. They were very accommodating which was a great help. This is a delightful pub/restaurant/hotel about 5 miles from the centre of Newbury. The rural setting aids for a peaceful stay. The food menu was absolutely fantastic serving many quality good value for money and unusual dishes. The Carnarvon has a large free of charge car park. I stayed only for one night and was very pleased with the room and excellent value for money. The breakfast was good. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend the Carnarvon and in future will be booking with them on my many trips to Newbury as it is better than the Hilton and Chequers.

Lovely Inn and ideal location close to Highclere Castle. Food was delicious and rooms comfy and cozy. The folks at the front desk were very helpful and it seemed to have some locals enjoying that atmosphere at the bar. All in all perfect location before we headed to the South coast.

No idea why anybody would stay at the nearby Premier Inn when this is available? Staff are Great, Rooms are Really Great and the food is just Excellent and has been for a long long time! Breakfast is the Best I can remember! What else? Beers are good, Charging Points. Done.

Lovely hotel / country pub. Rooms were well presented and bedding very nice. Breakfast in the morning was perfect and most welcome. Location was perfect for an overnight stay and just off the A34. Great value and would highly recommend. Very good

Went for a Sunday roast and overall it was OK. Quality of meats very good, Yorkshire pudding excellent, veg very tasty but roast potatoes average. What let it down was the gravy, texture of dish water and no flavour. Service was excellent Would I go back, yes but probably not for the roast.

Quaint country pub with rooms. Our room was small, but well thought out and clean, although there was no air conditioning, so quite warm. The honesty food and drinks was a nice touch. The main problem was noise. It appeared the doors needed adjusted to soft close, so staff downstairs going about their day created a lot of banging above. The big plus, is the pub is about 5 minutes from Highclere House, so a perfect base for visiting “Downton Abbey”.
