Bull Burford

I'd heard very good things about Bull Burford - it receiving rave critical review. I really enjoyed my stay and I would recommend Bull. First to say that Burford is a delightful Cotswold town. The architecture is absolutely charming - about as typically Cotswold as you can get. The surrounding scenery is beautiful too. The high street has enough interest for a leisurely morning. Bull is right at the heart of the action. I stayed a Sunday night and had no problem getting parked from the hotel just a few minutes walk away. There is no car park in the hotel itself. As for Bull itself, two things stand out immediately. The interior design is stunning. It's unlike anything I've seen before in a Cotswold country inn. It's not 'modern' and it's definitely not 'traditional' - it's much more sophisticated than that. There's a lot of thought gone into the details. The second thing that stands out is the art. It is exceptional. At every turn there is gallery quality art that is interesting and engaging. It adds real richness to the experience. I was booked in the entry room category. On arrival the team upgraded me to a slightly larger room and the space was very nice. The rooms, like the interiors generally, are cosy, hugely comfortable and thoughtful. Great beds, linens and really good lighting. The drinks trolley is brilliant - a very stylish way to display a mini bar and tea and coffee facilities. I think my only negative of my entire stay was a handful of minor slips in the room design. These are minor - but stand out given the quality of the rest of the experience. Examples - the bedside tables are just too small and the lamps too large. In the bathroom there are no hooks for towels or bathrobes. I mentioned these and a couple of other points on checkout and the receptionist handled this constructively and generously. Generosity is another asset of Bull. The Pantry is a great addition - with lovely blondies, coffee, tea, drinks. I got a voucher for a free drink in the bar on arrival. I had dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Dinner in particular was really excellent. The roast beef I had was the best roast dinner I can remember in a restaurant anywhere. I think the desserts were over priced. The Espresso Brule was tasty - but very expensive for a pretty simple dessert. Breakfast was good. As others have said, I can see no reason to book and bed and breakfast package rather than doing breakfast on pay as you go basis. There's no need to be spending £50 on breakfast here. I found the service largely to be friendly and professional. Perhaps in the restaurant things weren't quite as tight. But the reception team in particular were great. Overall a great, distinctive and impressive place to stay.

WOW - where do you even start. Art fans - its a must! I loved wondering through the halls and lounges admiring the artwork. Cleverly done through QR codes offering an art brochure. Staff are knowledgeable of the hotels both highway and bull. Fabulously renovated to a modern and tasteful level of contemporary and minimalism. Furthermore - WILD dinner with Chef Ben was second to none. We both have dined in many fabulous restaurants however, the atmosphere, the experience, setting and more importantly the food was unbelievable. We had somewhat expectations, though this exceeded every element. Credit to Ben for his clear knowledge of the food, ambition to keep the menu exciting every evening. Engaging with the guests and their questions - even as far as offering recipe advice over social media to help recreate some of the fabulous dishes at home. What a lovely guy - a huge asset i am sure to the business and Wild itself. Final mention for Wild was the scallops. The BIGGEST scallops i have ever seen and the best surprise of the evening! I shall write a separate review for highway - sister property of The Bull. Both properties were incredible and really did blow me away. Working at a hotel in the Cotswold's myself, i often find it hard to match and impress my level of expectation. Though this was really up there for me! Really well done to the team - special mention to Jade whom also served us in Wild. Then after for breakfast the following day at Highway! You are amazing!

Great renovation creating a cozy ambience. We had Sunday lunch - main course really delicious, but the meal overall was let down by dessert, which was underwhelming in the extreme. At £12, very expensive for half a bought in lemon meringue tartlet with a scoop of sorbet. Such a shame.
