This was our first trip to Bucerias and 5 Frogs. Wow. First impression was just WOW! We arrived mid afternoon, luggage in tow, and we were warmly welcomed by the owners Doug & Kelly. We needed to be checked in by the Manager David, and had to wait a whole TWO minutes for that to happen. While we waited we were given a complimentary bottle of beer each in the little bar area right at the front of the hotel. If you are looking for authentic Mexican feel and decor, this boutique hotel is perfect for you. As I said the first thing is the bar area, great drinks and full bar service. Behind that are the 2 pools. Once we met with David, Doug showed us to our room. Each room is newly renovated, and each has its own theme. Ours on the second floor was the Hummingbird. Every detail carried the theme from the chandeliers to the hooks in the bathroom. Each room is a suite with a living area and full kitchen, with fabulous glasses & dishware. The rooms are just so well equipped and spotlessly clean. Plenty of towels are also provided. But I feel if you did need more of anything they would be happy to accommodate. Each room also has a dedicated outdoor area with tables & chairs and a BBQ if you wanted to make your own meals. While not directly ON the beach, the beach is literally 3 minutes walk away. The hotel provides (free of charge) beach chairs, umbrellas and generously sized and soft beach towels. The beach itself is clean, free of seaweed and you can go in the water and walk for quite a distance before it gets deeper. Since our hotel was so close, when we needed the bathroom, we were able to just walk back to our room. There are public bathrooms in the area, but we didn't feel the need to use them. The area that the 5 Frogs is in, is also amazing. So many fabulous bars and restaurants and a 5 minute walk to the big market area. At the time of our stay, the street in front of the hotel was closed off for a chalk festival of some sort. A bunch of local artists, did chalk drawings in the span of 3 or 4 days, and there was also live music and many vendor stalls as well. If you like quiet AFTER 11, then this area is also for you. The nights aren't late, and a lot of restaurants and bars close by 10:00. But again, there's no lack of variety. EVERYONE it seemed in this area speaks English, so that is also not an issue. They appreciate if you try to speak Spanish, but it's not necessary. Also, never felt unsafe, ever. One thing to note though, is if you have mobility issues you might struggle a bit. All the streets are cobble stones, and while main streets are fairly smooth, some side streets are very bumpy and hard to get around. And like many places in Mexico, sidewalks are often a bit "bumpy". I can't praise 5 Frogs and Bucerias enough. Our only regret was only staying 5 days. We plan on booking next year as soon as possible for at least 2 weeks. To be honest, I wish I didn't have to write such a good review, as I'd rather keep this gem to myself
