My stay at the Horizon Hotel was the worst hotel experience of my life. From the moment I arrived, it was a nightmare. Issues arose at every turn, culminating in my early departure as soon as I could manage it. The most distressing incident occurred when I became trapped in my room from 8:00 PM to 1:30 AM due to a broken latch on the door lock. Once the door was closed, the faulty latch prevented me from leaving the room. To exacerbate the situation, the room did not have an ensuite bathroom, leaving me without access to basic facilities for several hours. Despite making numerous calls to both security and hotel management, no one was able to assist me. I was essentially imprisoned in a room without basic amenities for an extended period. I finally managed to check out at 8:00 AM, utterly exhausted and frustrated. When I requested a full refund for this appalling experience, my request was denied. The hotel management claimed that since I had used the room, they could not provide a refund and argued that they could not resell the room for that night. I pointed out that I was astonished they would consider selling a room with a broken door latch in the first place. I had only stayed in the room for 30 minutes before discovering I was locked inside. I conveyed this to the management, but they remained unhelpful. The lack of basic facilities and the inability to leave my room made this an unforgettable ordeal for all the wrong reasons. I will be sharing this dreadful experience with everyone I know to warn them about the horrendous conditions and poor service at the Horizon Hotel. After reading other reviews, I am not surprised to discover that this is the worst hotel in Brighton. I have video evidence and emails for anyone interested in taking this case further.

I saw all the bad reviews after I booked so was very concerned what I would find. I needn't have worried. The basement room had been redecorated recently. It was clean, bright and spacious. This hotel is small but a good base for exploring Brighton.

I have booked a room for me and my wife and I want to express my disapointment in regards to the state of the room. We have paid £89 and everything is very dirty, from the carpet to the bathroom. We were forced to sleep somewhere else as the conditions were unbeareable and the smell in the room was disgusting. I am very dissapointed with this and I’m I’m not reccomending your place to anyone. I am expecting my deposit to be returned without any delay.. I attached some pictures..

So I’ve booked this hotel in Brighton, it’s not a hotel it’s like a halfway house, , dirty carpets, difficult entry, blood on the ceiling. Mould in the bathroom, extremely basic not even a bedside light . Absolutely awful ! I didn’t even stay there now they won’t return my money.!

Yanka was the best bar tender I’ve ever had! Best club to go to in Brighton (open later than any other other club ) Yanka is the best!! Ask 4 her!!! She accommodated us and gave me and my friends shot cards!

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting family nearby. We paid £111 a night. No breakfast being offered but this was clear on booking. We have both stayed in other seaside hotels in high season for less money and much better quality accommodation. We can’t fault the location- really near to the pier and the Madeira Terraces and zip wire. Also overlooks the New Steine green and is no more than 10mins walk from cafes and the Laines. The building itself was wrapped in scaffolding but we were reassured there was no work being done on it as we stayed. After a sleepless night due to the rattling sash windows the scaffolders arrived before 8am on the Sunday morning and began to noisily deconstruct the scaffolding. We stayed in room 57 which was apparently the 3rd floor although we walked up 6 different sets of stairs through multiple fire doors with our luggage. No lift. The floors and stairs were uneven and the handrail often quite low so anyone under the influence may have easily lost their footing. Some of the landing windows had cracked glass and were left open overnight with external scaffolding and a ladder nailed to the internal wall beneath this window this could have been a security risk. Our room was very basic- no phone as advertised. The bed was a very small double with a torn and dusty headboard. Plugs and bedside light on one side of the bed only. No room or hairdryer in the rooms but we’re on offer if needed. Not sure I’d have wanted to lug an ironing board up 6 sets of stairs! Tea and coffee- There were 2 teabags and some coffee satchets and UHT milk as per hotel norm but neither were replenished during our 2 night stay. The 2 cups for hot drinks were odd with one half the size of the other so we ended up drinking our hot drinks from the matching glasses provided. The en-suite was pretty small but serviceable. You had to sit slightly sideways on the loo as the loo and sink were so close to each other and the walls weren’t far apart. The under sink cabinet was badly water damaged with lots of blue liquid soap spilled inside it. The loo roll holder was attached to the bottom of this cabinet beside the loo and right in the line of fire of anyone standing up to pee (I suspect) The internal door lock was hanging off the door one evening as we returned and an external light fitting was also hanging off the wall. We heard a staff member explain to a customer that the scaffolding was due to some remodeling. We do wonder what it looked like before the work was completed and feel it’s a shame that some time and money has not been spent on the unloved looking interior.
