This hotel should be fined for breaching trade description as it is not on the seafront but sat behind the much larger Marriott and another hotel. Our room had a small bay window and this was the nearest to a sea view you would get - just a small slit from the side window. It is the first time staying in a travelodge since they tried to up their game and I have a mixed opinion. Room is narrow and pretty small, with the large bed taking up most of the width. Design isn’t great - more a case of trying to do the basics but not really doing them well. tiny The showeroom with vinyl shower curtain - a glass screen is presumably too much to expect had the toilet too near the wall so seat rubber supports gets damaged (one was pretty mucky) as you have to lean to one side to use the loo roll. The postage-stamp sized toilet roll is something to behold! There is nowhere to store clothes except for your own case and a rail with 6 coat hangers. No safe to store valuables. There are USB ports next to the bed so that is something. A small desk and small TV that vies for deskspace with the kettle mean there isn’t much room to actually use the desk. It’s an old building so floors are uneven and creaky. Would be nice if your bed was actually made like most hotels. I know they claim it is for saving the planet (more like cost saving) but I wasn’t expecting clean sheets every day. Seems they do that every 6 days. They have a card saying hang outside door to request a refresh of towels and coffee. I would prefer they asked if we wanted new towels by putting them on the floor or in washbasin like other hotels do. Why assume both are required? Coffee in room is DISGUSTING and tasteless. One sachet was old and the coffee granules nearly black so switched to tea which is at least branded. You can sometimes find free car parking in the streets nearby so don’t automatically pay the parking charge. Beware the parking wardens as they seem a bit zealous. Staff on reception were quite friendly but barman wasn’t the best. First time I have had a Baileys in a school glass! Surprisingly the food options are the same prices on the day or booked in advance so don’t pre- book breakfast / dinner thinking you get a discount. A pint wasn’t too expensive at £4.40 a pint of Budweiser (though it isn’t worth more!) There are lots of independent and chain restaurants within a 2 minute walk (or 5-10 mins to town) and the hotel bar isn’t really great so worth exploring. Wetherspoons breakfast from 2.99 is nearby in the town. So egg, bacon, sausage and coffee or orange juice at £2.99 saves £6 on the travelodge brekky albeit that you do get unlimited food and a better choice in the hotel. No double glazing so it can be a bit noisy at night but otherwise it is quiet. The hotel is on the clifftop so a fairly steep walk down to the beach or town. The funicular railway down to the beach is closed due to a landslip. It does seem a bit Ryanair with 30 mins free wifi and no r
