We stayed at the Gran Fiesta Americana Veracruz for three nights from 21-24 September 2024, at roughly $285 (USD) including taxes and fees. I booked our two rooms through the American Express portal with ocean views and we were extremely disappointed once we arrived at the hotel. The hotel was extremely hot and stuffy and we were told that the city of Veracruz was experiencing rolling blackouts and the hotel’s A/C system wasn’t working at full capacity. After we checked in (around 3:30pm), we went to our room and found that the temperature in the room was ridiculously hot and wasn’t able to drop below 27 degrees Celsius (roughly 80 degrees Fahrenheit), for OVER SIX HOURS. Even after six hours it wouldn’t drop any lower than 24 degrees Celsius (75 degrees Fahrenheit). While we understand that there was nothing the hotel can do about the blackouts, when we brought up this issue to the front desk and asked if they could provide our rooms with fans, they said there was nothing they could do. For paying $285/night for a hotel room in Mexico, I’m expecting to at least be provided with comfortable living conditions. As if this wasn’t bad enough, our rooms had roughly three inches of exposed wires near the sliding doors, one room was missing a lightbulb from the light fixture, the TV didn’t work in one of the rooms and in the other room the phone was broken and had to be completely replaced. The only good thing at this hotel was the food, but even that didn’t make up for the atrocious living conditions. I wouldn’t recommend anyone stay at this hotel. We’ll be staying at the Camino Real the next time we visit.
