The Oxford Hotel

Hotel is needing updated especially the bedrooms and en-suites, showers need renewing the shower doors fall off and the hot water in showers was hit and miss, the bar area is reasonably decorated and bar well stocked, the young lady jade is excellent at her job but very over worked and personally couldn’t do enough for our large party, the food that I did get was pretty poor, the pea and ham soup was mushy peas with some ham in it, the braised beef was 4 lumps of stew, the apple crumble I couldn’t comment on as the waitress served the other 3 at out table and never came back with mine, had to ask for cutlery as some was missing, breakfast was a joke served between 8-9 arrived at 8.40 a few people in front of me and behind me in the queue as it’s a buffet breakfast, no sausage, bacon or eggs, 1/2 slice fried bread left asked for more to be brought out to be told chef stops cooking at 8.45 breakfast finishes at 9 the time was now 8.55 notice on wall for each person to only take 1 of each item, if your going to do that serve the breakfast to each table don’t do a buffet, ate out the next night and breakfast the next morning we had at cafe round the corner and it was superb, we got a stamp card for 8 drinks free, we used the cans of cider and beer, as the spirits were rotten,(personal choice) and a nice gesture from the hotel, would personally not stay here again unless it was upgraded

Just come back please avoid this hotel it’s horrendous never heard noise like it you can hear fans other people on toilet generator noise the walls are paper thin never got a wink of sleep for 3 nights I was there never even attempted the food as others said it was awful so eat out every night needs a lot doing to this place so please avoid

The hotel needs up dateing but on the whole the staff are very frendly and they work very hard and nothing is to much trouble for them they go out of their way to help people the meals were ok and you get 4 free drinks in with the price so you cant complain the room we had was on the small side but we only went to the room to sleep and get changed their is a nice bar area and their is plenty of entertainment on at night if you dont want to go out and also a nice sitting area outside when nice weather realy did enjoy it we will be back soon sandra and joe were realy helpful great people

This has got to be the worst hotel I have stayed in I would not even let my worst enemy stay here. Shower door fell off and no hot water and if your on a diet the food will suit you. Staff do nothing but moan and 1 item at breakfast with someone watching to make sure you don't take 2 rashers of bacon or 2 sausages it becomes a bit dodgy when you come to the deep fried mushrooms. Thank god Caledonian Travel moved us to the Georgian up the road pleasant staff decent meals and a lovely room.

We went as a large family group. We were worried with the reviews. We arrived and were told to sit in bar and wait. We got our keys and went to our rooms. Rooms were tired but appeared clean and tidy. Dinner choice was not the best. Kids had goujons and so did my parents as they couldn't eat the other choices. We went to bar after dinner and couldn't get the drinks we normally drunk with the vouchers. It was cheap vodka or pay. The guy was good to my mum and she was allowed to use a token and 1 pound for a smirnoff. We were told only available to my mum. Vodka was awful. The drinks are in plastic tumblers. The ones they use in elderly homes. Very weird. Whats wrong with glasses. We then went out to the new philly. When we came back my mum and dad had a drink and loved the entertainment. The second day we arrive at advertised time 8.30 for breakfast to find out it was at 8am. A bit early when your on holiday however smelled great. Went to get some and sign saying only one item each and no extras. Drinks in plastic tub for ice cream That were being reused. No glasses. Tiny tea cups. Breakfast was not warm and most was fried. Heart burn all day. We then were out all day. Mum's telly was broke and she left a note asking it to get fixed as no one at reception. Eventually got sorted after dinner. Thank you. We went out all day and came back for dinner. Mushy pea soup with under cooked ham. Then mushy scampi and dried out chips. The entertainment was good. Funny comedian guy. 😆 The next day went for breakfast earlier. Was warmer. Went out for late lunch. So can't comment on Sunday dinner but other residents said it was decent. The girl singer was funny but a bit cutting. The noise from our room was awful. People talking during the night. Generator noise also. Was driving us insane. Very little sleep was had. Was so glad to get home. I know the owners are trying but a friendly helpful attitude is a must. To be told no or not included isn't very friendly and made me really uncomfortable. Really needs a full makeover and modernisation. Why is there no glasses? Why use they plastic cups for juice. They are awful. This review is not to upset anyone just our experience for anyone thinking of going.

Wasnt going to do a review but owners have told lies on here about my wife so here goes, on arrival we were put in a bar area while rooms were getting done as they said they had a staff shortage couldnt get a drink or anything while we waited, i did ask when bar opened and sandra told me dunno after ive done the evening meals. got room went up to it and believe me it wasnt the best ceiling had more ripples then the sea very old tired the room was no hot water coming out of tap, but nevermind went for evening meal it was a there was two options salad or liver and onions not really liking any of them i got salad was'nt nice prisoner's are better fed, nighttime entertainment was ok to be fair but we were giving plastic glasses and canned beer which quickly ran outowner did go get another two cases of beer but when that ran out it was have whatever there was, morning came breakfast i thought great im starving but we were only allowed one of each thing one slice of bacon one sausage one egg and it wasnt the best, poor elderly man sitting in front of me was told off for taking two sausages meals never improved during stay even the owners ate McDonalds regulary which says it all, kids running around during entertainment isnt good maybe keep private life seperate from buisness would be good. ( and you say my wife was filthy and left soiled sanitary towels on floor in bathroom we i assure you its nedically impossible so that something else we missed) unless your going to say they were mine. i'll never return to this place and would advise anyone else to do the same until its closed and a full refurb done. ive travelled a lot and stayed in a lot of hotels NEVER!!! ever have i had to buy milk and tea bags ect for room one youve used whats in room it will cost you for more .
