A real gem. Beautiful old summer palace plus other buildings set in walled peaceful grounds alongside a lake just outside the small town of Shahpura. Still in the ownership of the local landowner's family, they live on site and are deeply embedded in the local community. The manager, PK is a local *** who has immense and justified pride in the operation. Every single staff member we encountered was a delight - charming, full of smiles and working hard to make our stay special. The staff are local villagers - what they lack in "professionalism" is more than made up for by their genuine care and attention. There is a programme of trips and visits around the area that give an insight into life in the local farms and villages. Everywhere we were met with huge smiles (and a tail of small children). Sundowners at the abandoned fort is a must. After the busy cities this is a wonderful place to unwind and relax. Rooms have an understated elegance - our villa room was huge. Strong recommendation

Hidden Treasure. Such a beautiful hotel. Wonderful attention to detail. Outstanding bird life, nothing overlooked. The food was delicious and everyone we met in the hotel and the village so friendly. Absolutely loved this hidden, relaxing hotel. An absolute must for those who are looking for relaxation, tranquility and beautiful bird life.

Stunning location, beautiful pool, great friendly staff and amazing fresh food mostly grown on the farm. Family run, lots of history, a truly amazing place to stay for relaxing. Local trips arranged via the hotel. The family are always on hand and more than happy to talk. This was our second visit and very much look forward to returning again. Highly recommend.

Once again, we have enjoyed a relaxing break at Shahpura Bagh, our fifth stay here since 2011. The peaceful surroundings, the comfort, the fascinating trips around the local communities, the sun-downers at Dhikola Fort and, not least, the always friendly welcome from the family and staff mean that this is a must-do whenever we are in Rajasthan. This was an excellent one night stay between two safari camps. If we had known the beauty of the place we would have stayed a second night. The owners , management and staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating. The night of our arrival we were treated to sundowners and snacks at a candle lit fort dating back to 1680. The next morning we had a bird watch tour with Shabbir Khan , whose knowledge on bird life was amazing. I would recommend at least a 2 night stay

Our 2nd visit to this truly amazing location. It’s like home from home, the owners treat you like family. From stunning surroundings to wonderful trips out. Definitely recommend our guide Shabbir Khan for bird watching and jeep safari, he went above and beyond which made the experience all the more memorable. All the staff are great and the food tremendous. Will most definitely be returning. X

This is simply outstanding. 5 star luxury. Staff are extremely friendly, room was beautiful and very spacious. There are two villas suites in the grounds with outdoor shower and extra room with outdoor seating. These may cost a bit more but you will not be disappointed. Highlights of our stay included going to see the sunset from the roof of the old fort which is a 15 minuet jeep ride away, this is a must do activity. Also we had a jeep tour with Shabbir khan who took us to the local school, village and to see rural homes, it was a privilege to be invited to see real rural life and very humbling experience which will remember for a very long time. Shabbir was a brilliant local guide and made our trip so memorable. Once in a lifetime experience, a must to include on your India itinerary

From the moment we arrived at this fabulous authentic home/ hotel we felt relaxed. This was the perfect place to stay on our journey from Jaipur to Udaipur. An oasis from the bustle of India We stayed for two nights (one night would not have been enough). We did the village tour and the sunset sundowner at the fort, both activities I would highly recommend. We were encouraged by our host Maya to feel as if the hotel was our home. She was even able to find an unusual cable to charge our torch. Parikshit ( PK) was such a lovely ***, the perfect hotel manager. He was so kind and thoughtful. This is an hotel not to be missed

From the moment you arrive at this oasis of calm and are greeted by PK, the hotel manager, and by the owner, you feel you are at home. Shahpura is usually a stop-off point between Udaipur & Jaipur, both of which are busy & noisy, and so the peace & tranquility of Shahpura Bagh is such a treat. The rooms are beautiful, the staff kind, friendly and attentive and the food is excellent. Staff are recruited from the local district and trained in all areas of hospitality and this is indicative of the family’s commitment to supporting the local people. Included in your room rate are a number of trips & experiences. I highly recommend the village & farm tour which has so far been the highlight of our 3 weeks in India. No one is selling to you, no one wants money, they are just happy to welcome you. Genuinely the happiest, most friendly people I have ever met. We also walked into the local village/market which is really interesting & very safe. Everyone just wants to say ‘hello’! I had some shoes repaired for 50 rupees (50p) but we only had a 100 note so gave him that but he wouldn’t take it. He insisted on giving change. Shahpura Bagh is way more than a stopover, it is a ‘must’ when visiting Rajasthan in my opinion.
