The Westin la Quinta Golf Resort & Spa, Benahavis, Marbella

I rarely write negative reviews – in fact, I don’t think I ever have. As someone who has extensively and stayed at countless five-star hotels across the world, I’ve come to appreciate and expect a certain standard: beautiful design, professional and kind service, and an atmosphere that makes you feel genuinely welcomed. Unfortunately, this hotel was the complete opposite – and by far the worst experience I’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that something was wrong. There was no warm welcome, no helpfulness, no smiles. The staff were cold, distant, and unapproachable. As a family with young children, we immediately felt uncomfortable – like we didn’t belong. We weren’t shown to our room but simply pointed in its direction. Nobody explained anything about the hotel or its facilities. We later discovered that the bar by the pool and inside the hotel has strange and inconsistent opening hours. If you want a cold drink by the pool, you’ll have to go inside and get it yourself. Absolutely no service. The pool area itself was incredibly underwhelming. The space feels neglected and uninviting – overgrown bushes, untrimmed trees, and a general lack of care give it a tired, almost abandoned atmosphere. Guests even brought their own speakers and played loud music poolside – completely unchecked by staff. Not exactly the peaceful, luxurious vibe you’d hope for. It didn’t get better at night. Large groups of men – apparently golf guests – gathered in the lounge areas late into the evening, being loud and disruptive. Sleep was nearly impossible with the constant noise and lack of control from hotel management. Again, no effort was made to ensure peace and comfort for the rest of the guests. Housekeeping came only once during our three-night stay. On the final night, we chose to leave and stay elsewhere – we simply couldn’t take it anymore. There were ants crawling across the floor, no toilet brush in the bathroom, and a general lack of cleanliness. The hotel feels neglected and poorly maintained. Multiple areas are noisy due to exposed pumps or malfunctioning equipment, and the place desperately needs renovation. The staff passed us in the hallways without greeting us – not even a simple “hello.” The breakfast staff seemed disinterested and inattentive, with no sense of proper hospitality. The Kids’ Club – one of the main reasons we booked this hotel – was closed without notice, apparently only open in high season. Deeply disappointing and completely unprofessional. This hotel should not be calling itself a luxury destination. It lacks service, warmth, atmosphere, and basic standards. It felt more like a worn-out motel than a high-end getaway. I left feeling not just disappointed but truly shocked that a place like this can advertise itself as something it clearly is not. Went for a few days golfing with my son. The hotel is well laid out, spotlessly clean, with all the facilities you could need. The golf course was really well kept, and well designed in a way that golfers of all levels could get round and enjoy. However the thing that struck us from the moment we arrived was how friendly and helpful every member of staff was. Made us feel welcome, and took care of everything we needed/asked.

There was little to fault during our four night stay with three other couples. The hotel is impressive and very clean with the bedrooms very comfortable. All facilities are easy to access and as golfers the courses a 5 minute walk from the reception. With the weather excellent our tee times were mid morning so we were able to finish golf and head back to the outdoor pool to reflect on our game and enjoy the poolside bar. All staff were excellent and always ready to serve you. The pool bar offered a good range of drinks and food with poolside service also provided. The breakfast area is large with the choice to eat alfresco in the sunshine. The hotel also operates a shuttle bus to Marbella and Porto Benus which you can book at no additional cost. We found the taxis to be reasonably priced and readily available for a party of eight. Transfer time from the airport to the hotel was approx. 40 minutes. We would highly recommend the Westin Le Quinta and will return in 2025!

First of all, I would rate the hotel a three but the people were just awesome and they are the reason I’m giving the property of solid four! The property itself needs to be redone new furniture new carpet just a revamp. The property itself is very nice. The restaurants are marginal but again the people are fantastic. Really enjoyed and I would go back there again.

What a fantastic hotel, clean and spacious, rooms immaculate, pillows wonderful plus cleaned daily, lovely pool area and quiet, it did help Al Nassr football team were there all week whilst we were there, I spotted Ronaldo once!! Cocktails amazing, the restaurant was very nice, food lovely, they even do special orders, we had seafood paella which was very good We had an excellent holiday, we look forward to returning one day soon

Just got back a trip here with friends, the hotel is great. The golf was massively disappointing however. Terrible practice facilities, very mixed staff, some are very helpful, some are extremely unhelpful. The course on the surface looks good, however once you look a little closer it was in really poor condition. The fairways were like playing off straw. So dry, the only reason they are green was because they had sprayed them green?! Really disappointing experience unfortunately.
