Mayfair Hotel

I stayed with my mother and two children for a weekend getaway. The location was great, directly across from the beach tag hut and beach access. Everything else was horrible. It is hot and humid in the rooms; the small air conditioner and ceiling fan did very little. The rooms are tiny but nicely decorated. There are only two spots out front for parking. If those spots are full, it's nearly impossible to find street parking nearby. They have a beautiful pool! It was NOT OPENED. In the middle of summer. No. Pool. But the absolute worst part of our trip? Glenn. Please call ahead and see if Glenn is still employed BEFORE you book this decrepit hotel. Glenn, an employee of the Mayfair Hotel, POUNDED on our door at 7:30 am because my 2-year-old screamed twice during a tantrum. Glenn threatened to have the police come and "throw me and my kids out of this hotel" if he had to come back to tell me to shut my kids up one more time. Glenn was aggressive, threatening, and not hospitable in the least. Glenn also told me that it is "unacceptable" and "irresponsible" to travel with young children. You may only stay at this hotel if you are traveling solo or with a very quiet travel companion. They are not family friendly and do not want your children to stay at their hotel. Call before you book to verify that they have the amenities available that they claim to provide (read: the pool) AND make sure Glenn was fired before even stepping foot in this Hell Hole. Oh, and the beds suck.

The staff was very helpful and attentive. The room was clean and the location was amazing.

The hotel is old and charming. We had an ocean front room. The view was amazing. The room was updated, comfortable and spotless! We would have appreciated knowing that the pool was not open due to being repaired, however. It was a lovely experience and we will be returning. Kellie

The hotel lobby entrance is gorgeous. The pictures online don’t do this quaint, oceanfront hotel justice. Perfect location. The room was cozy, beds and pillows were very comfortable. Staff was nice. No complaint at all. Would definitely come back!

The owner of this property has no business running and advertising this as a hotel for families! It. is. not! We paid over $200/night to stay at a halfway house! It was strange when we first arrived that there were "guests" walking around in their pajamas and smoking on the front stoop of the "hotel". Then we went to our room, (which was not an ocean view room.) The shower was less than 10 inches from the bed! and the toilet was shoved into a closet barely big enough for one person! The bed were cots. We couldn't close the blinds or curtains so we had to put pillows in the windows so we could change and *cringe* shower. The second day,(and last day), we stayed we noticed a sign in lobby that said "No guests allowed upstairs", which we also thought was odd. The kicker came when we overheard a "guest" at the desk talking about his $200/week rate!! Wait, what? Why are we paying $200+ a night!!!! This was horrible! If the owner is running this place as a halfway house, great. I'm sure there is a need for it, BUT THEN DON'T TRY TO ADVERTISE AS A HOTEL FOR FAMILIES!!! Will never stay again.

Well, I don't quite know where to start. So far we had stayed in times Square, niagra falls and now done a 6 hour car drive to belmar, new jersey. On arrival we joked that we would be staying at the hotel with all the plants in the window. As it happens that was it! It's exactly what it says on the tin, no frills. No breakfast. Collect your paper cup from reception in the morning and make your coffee. Its a bit like a hostel with comings and goings. The rooms are clean and basic. Loved the American fridge though. Staff are always at reception, albeit don't ask too many questions. It's a great location for the beach. The swimming pool was closed and when I asked why I was told yes it's closed! The problem is they have got the monopoly, as there are no other hotels around. It is very over priced for what it is. We loved our time in new jersey. Would we stay there again no we wouldn't. We would have to stay outside of belmar. It's also only a 1.5 hour drive back to new york city.
