Stayed at the Mercure Hotel in Beijing and had a mostly positive experience. The hotel was clean, the room spacious with lots of natural light, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. The bed was comfortable, and the shower and toilet were excellent, featuring a warm seat with adjustable heating and washing options.
Pros include the hotel's central location, friendly staff, and well-maintained rooms. However, the location is incorrectly marked on Google Maps, leading to an initial mix-up and an extra taxi ride. It's worth noting that Google Maps can be very unreliable in China. I suggest using Apple maps or the local Baidu, although only available in Chinese:(
A major downside was the staff's lack of English. For an international hotel in the heart of Beijing, it's quite disappointing that the staff didn't speak any English. Learning a few basic phrases would significantly improve the guest experience.
The internet service was also subpar, frequently shutting down and slowing down in the evenings, which was frustrating compared to the better internet service at other hotels in Beijing.
Overall, Mercure Hotel is recommended for solo travelers looking for good value, provided they don’t mind using a translation app to communicate with the staff and aren’t too reliant on fast internet.
