A nice looking Victorian Hotel but we were put in the annex. Maybe the rooms in the main building are used by the owners? Web site very misleading, our room was damp (visible on walls) and smelly. The "Black Pennel" Bar where the evening meals are served was rather grim, dirty widows with cobwebs. The Landlord behind the bar was unshaven and unkempt - a perfect extra for a castaways film. There was a towel across most of the beer taps. I enquired if any were working and the landlord pointed to the Caledonian Best tap. It spluttered and the nice young girl who was also behind the bar quietly reminded him that it had been off since last Friday ( this was Wednesday). I asked if there were any beers or lagers and he pointed to can of Tennent's on the bar top. I had that. If Basil Fawlty were suddenly to appear, I would have thanked my lucky stars. The meal was disappointing, we left most of it. The Landlord's Thai partner has to work very hard- I get that and take my hat off to her. However its not fair on Travellers to deceive. If there was such a thing as Euthanasia for Hotels, The Tomich would be at the front of the queue. Interestingly like another review on this site we also saw a man with a box of chihuahuas dogs in the bar, also staying in the annex. We departed before breakfast.
