I chose to celebrate our first wedding anniversary at this 5-star hotel, as it held sentimental value for us—we had celebrated our first month together at the Thai restaurant in their London branch. Sadly, the London location has since closed, so I decided to surprise my husband by booking a stay at this alternative location. I reserved the “Cosy” room, and while it was comfortable enough, it did not meet the standards expected from a 5-star establishment. The attention to detail was lacking—there was rust on the shower curtain rail, a chip on the black toilet (which stood out even more since it wasn’t a standard white WC), and the walls were so thin we could hear conversations from the neighboring room, especially in the bathroom. To add to this, our room faced an unexpectedly busy road, which detracted from the peaceful ambiance we had hoped for. A thoughtful touch was a note on the bed that said "Happy Anniversary," but unfortunately, they misspelled our surname despite my having emailed the correct details beforehand. I had also requested strawberries dipped in chocolate and a bottle of champagne for our arrival. This request was made through the booking app, but I was told to call the hotel directly. After weeks of failed attempts to get through via phone, I resorted to emailing the hotel, only to be told to try calling again as they were receiving too many calls. My request was never acknowledged or fulfilled, which was deeply frustrating. Upon arrival, we waited until the standard check-in time of 3 PM for our room to be ready. We had booked a champagne afternoon tea, and while the food was lovely, the service was just okay. The staff did make a nice gesture by writing "Happy Anniversary" on our plate, which was appreciated. Dinner at the Thai restaurant was the highlight of our stay—the food was exceptional, and the service was impeccable. However, the entrance to the restaurant was difficult to find, and instead of guiding us, the receptionist merely pointed us in the general direction. Perhaps I’m expecting too much from a 5-star hotel, but I believe it's courteous to walk guests to their destination. Our night's sleep was disrupted despite the comfortable mattress, mostly due to the noise from the road and the thin walls. Check-out the next morning was disappointingly impersonal; the reception team didn’t bother asking how our stay had been and simply returned our deposit and processed the bill. Following our check-out, we had a lunch reservation with friends to celebrate our anniversary further. I had booked the champagne meal, which had a 50% discount promotion on Wednesdays. Upon sitting down, however, we were informed that the offer was no longer available, and we would have to pay full price if we wanted champagne. While the food was again delicious, the service was subpar, especially considering we spent nearly £500 on the meal. To top it off, they presented us with two plates featuring a “Happy Anniversary” message and som
