I want to preface this by stating that my husband and I are very laid back, go with the flow kind of people. We do not like confrontation and we are not complainers. This is an honest review of Punta Cana Princess. When I was researching this resort, I was puzzled by the wide discrepancy in the reviews. Now, having experienced it firsthand, it’s clear why: they use a color-coded wristband system that plays favorites, and it is very noticeable. We were treated very differently from other guests. The Positives: Grounds, Beach, and Select Dining The biggest positives of this resort are undoubtedly the well manicured grounds and the stunning beach. Both are very beautiful and heighten the tropical atmosphere. The food for the most part was decent. The Italian restaurant was our favourite, with yummy pasta and the most delicious chocolate dessert I have ever had. The steakhouse was also good and both restaurants were easy to access, which made for pleasant dining experiences. Disappointing Teppanyaki and Dining Logistics Unfortunately, our experience at the teppanyaki restaurant was a letdown. The process of getting there and back was cumbersome. We waited over 20 minutes for a ride to the restaurant, and when it was time to leave, there were no clear instructions on where to go or who to ask for help. It seemed like there was only one trolley for the entire resort. Once seated, our chef barely interacted with us, offering none of the lively performance teppanyaki is known for, which was especially disappointing given the enjoyable atmosphere at the grill next to us. Mixed Food Quality and Limited Snack Options The buffet was a mixed bag: lackluster for lunch and dinner but great for breakfast, with a wide selection of western breakfast items and then some. The snack bar by the beach was a nice feature, but its 24-hour service claim was misleading. When available, the fries were a nice treat, although sometimes they served cold, stale leftovers mixed with fresh ones. Issues with Staff and Service Our interactions with staff were, for the most part, disappointing. We encountered several staff members who were unfriendly, unresponsive, and at times downright rude. We often felt unwelcome and undervalued as guests. We are well travelled and have been to many islands and have never ever had this poor of an experience with staff before. Some staff seemed almost annoyed while others, indifferent. A Nightmare of a Room Experience Our first room (4001) was in severe disrepair, and it was clear that it was a well-known problem among the staff. From the moment we walked in, we noticed the air conditioner leaking so badly in several places that the walls and ceiling were damaged and deformed, with puddles forming on the floor in various places. The bathroom ceiling sagged with water damage, and there was a large crack in the shower glass. Other issues included black mold, rust, loose fixtures, non-functioning locks, a broken phone, and cockroaches!
