The Manners

Really great experience at this pub, lovely people. Lovely room food love 2 lovely nights here. Bakewell a beautiful place and the Manners is central to all. Can't recommend too highly will be back

Rotten experience. We have stayed here twice before and had very good experiences. We made arrangements because of these. We knew that the management had changed and so we stayed at different accommodation. We went to the Manners for food and a space to watch the Six Nations. Two key issues: staff (training and responsibility) and food quality. Young staff on duty who were not in a position to make sensible decisions that catered for all the customers. Lack of senior support evident. Food quality poor. Looked like a ready meal from a bag. Tasteless. We cannot recommend and will not be returning. To note if you want to watch rugby in Bakewell the Queen's Arms had a number of screens and a great atmosphere with very welcoming staff. No food service though.

We were pleasantly surprised by this gem of a find on arriving here. Met with a warm welcome by all the lovely staff we were shown to a welcoming and inviting room. Spacious warm very clean and very comfortable. !! The selection of welcome goodies and treat’s totally has outshone any of the big hotels or chains. I couldn’t think of a single thing that could be added. I had the best nights sleep ever in the most comfortable bed i have ever slept on. We had an evening meal and breakfast which were both superbly cooked tasty and very generous in portion size. My only disappointment …. ? We only stayed one night ! The pub and 5 star room is in the centre of Bakewell so perfectly placed for visiting the village Chatsworth House or any of many other attractions in the area. Its very rare I rave about a place because theres usually something to make it less than perfect …. But not at The Manners. We will certainly return. Thank you for making us so welcome.

My husband and I really enjoyed our one night stay. Emma and her husband were warm, friendly and welcoming. The room was just right for what we wanted. There were lots of nice little gifts left for guests eg sweets, chocolate and toiletries. The latter were unexpected and exceptional. Lots of special teas and coffees to make your own drinks as well as biscuits. We ate the lot. The bed was lovely and comfortable. Regarding the food, we had a great evening meal and an exceptional full vegetarian English breakfast. This was served by Emma who was so attentive. It’s not ‘posh’ or luxurious and frankly we didn’t want that anyway. It was cosy and unpretentious and we would go again and recommend it to our friends. We were going to take our dog but decided not to at the last minute but he would have been welcomed as well. Also it’s situated in a convenient position to get to the town centre with good and safe parking. Thank you to all the staff.

We met some long lost family here earlier this week. A nice traditional pub. The staff were very pleasant and we had a nice two-course lunch. A warm cozy atmosphere and we weren't rushed. Happy to return another day. We did not stay overnight.

Mother’s Day disaster…. We as a family have been going to The Manner for years, and have always been very happy with the food and the service “fabulous”….. On arrival a lovely girl told us that there was no menu, and only Pork, beef and gammon, we all looked at each other, thought this was a little strange, but agreed. 3 pork, 1 gammon, Not hard to get food hot, all came lukewarm They had piled all the veg on top off the bit of meat to hide what was there. The first thing I picked up was a whole carrot what was just placed on top of my meal, this taste of bleach I gave a taste to my husband he agreed. Soggy Yorkshire puds, NOOOO!!! Crackling, 8 different veg, including water cress on top of a Sunday dinner. Cut the veg down give us more meat, watery gravy, what was the chards off onion thrown all over the meals… After asking for more meat and waiting 15 mins for our meals to return still Luke warm, the male server brought the meals over Arrogant, rude, cocky, my husband said enough is enough, my husband is a patient man but he couldn’t take anyone of this male servers attitude…. In the end the male stuck his finger up at us and told us never to return…. No worries there…. The worst experience we’ve ever had in pub.. AVOID….. until new management.
